Hello, new member here. Help me understand the differences in these two settings. I have an insulated garage converted to a golf simulator that gets used for 4 times a week for several hours at a time. The mini split is great but which setting is more cost effective to use. I’m not sure what exactly absence dectection does and how much saving there are vs the smart set at 10c then turning up to about 18c when needed. Any insight would be appreciated.
I’m in canada and this would be my first winter with the mini split h2i model.

I’m also a renovation contractor and have installed a few of these for clients for more general purpose supplemental heating/ cooling in older homes.

Absence detection is just like it sounds. Once the iSee sensor doesn't see any occupancy for a certain amount of time the system applies a setback to the temperature (can't remember what setback it is though) and then when the system sees movement it'll come back on at the last temperature set by the remote. Smart set is just a manual version but you get to pick the temperature and you have to turn the unit on when you go in the garage. I don't know how much savings you'll see using either because 8°C is a hefty setback to recover from.

The garage was 13c when I checked this morning. It only took 30 min to bring it to 18 and honestly 16 is better for club swinging. So I’m thinking if smart set at 10 then bring it up to16 in winter is not a big deal. No adjustment between 10 and 16 on the Mitsubishi for what ever reason but this seems perfect combo. Also the computer and projector add about 900 watts of heat when operating.
