I need some help choosing between two different York units. I live in a 2200sf manufactured home in Georgia.

York HMH72B481S Inverter heat pump, paired with a York JHVT variable speed air handler.

York YH2F48TB21S Lx series 2 stage.
Paired with York JHVTC48GBCC2N1 variable speed handler.

I can get them for about the same price. I’m not sure which is more reliable and which is more efficient. Thanks for your help!

Do you have any other options besides York?

Side discharges are nice, smaller footprint and can be mounted inches from the wall, probably will be quieter also, not sure who makes the HMH7, thinking it’s made/manufactured 100% in China. York could easily have a partnership with another manufacturer to supply those.

The YH2F is your traditional configuration vertical discharge. Says the SEER2 is 15.2 and EER2 11.7 and HSPF2 8.1 if your into efficiency ratings. Those numbers are not real world but are probably close, as of 1/23 the rating figures were changed to match a more real world install. Used to be just the SEER, EER and HSPF.

Looks to show for a AHRI ( Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute ) match for the HMH7 the indoor section needs to be a 5 ton Air Handler, looks to show SEER2 of 18

Certainly the HMH7 is a more complicated system with probably more proprietary parts. Hopefully the bidding Contractor has added training and install and setup and sizing many already to have a good handle on proper installation. May want to consider a surge protection device for that model as it will have more electronics than a single and two stage system.

Make sure to register your system as manufacturers warranty decreases if system never gets registered.

What is the labor warranty this Contractor is offering, if your interested more than a basic one year, manufacturer also offer extended labor warranties. Typically it will be either five or ten years. York along with Daikin are the only two manufacturers that backs their extended labor warranties. The other big names like Carrier, Trane and Lennox, Rheem etc. use a 3rd party to back their extended labor warranty.

If you’re proactive on your new system, ask them to explain the sequence of operation to you before handing over the last payment. Things like what happens to the outdoor unit and indoor unit when it’s near the thermostat setpoint and when the system is further from the thermostat setpoint. What and how does the defrost work, what initiates and terminates a defrost. Are you having electric heat strips installed? if so how do they work when system is in defrost. Is it hooked up to come on?

Do I need to look for a different brand?
All the equipment now days is "about" the same, I would just see what options other mfg's offer. Some Condensers have low and high pressure switches, some equipment have ECM condenser and furnace motors, some have better warranties, etc. just a few things you might use to compare. If you're just shopping price, I really don't know, we are Trane and Ruud dealers, and only sell their top of the line products.

I will ask more questions! Thanks on all the info! ?
Ask about rebates from your state ( if they never mentioned them, if they never mentioned them ask them why didn’t you ) and the Federal Tax Credit, as chances the inverter would apply.

One source for rebates from your state. You can also check your states web-site or local utility company.

Ask the Contractor for the AHRI number to prove they are bidding matched systems.

Way too many options! Are inverter heat pumps as reliable and efficient as they say? My second option I didn’t think was bad being it is 2 stage pump and variable speed air handler. A couple upgrades that cost a lot more with other contractors.

The HMH7 outdoor unit is made in China by I believe Haier. It looks like and pretty much is an inverter minisplit style outdoor unit. They’ve been reliable for us so far, I have installed about 20 of them. The 4 and 5 ton HMH7 is a pretty big and heavy outdoor unit.

The YH2F the traditional US style outdoor unit. That particular model is relatively new because of efficiency mandates that went into effect this year but not much changed from previous models.

They’re both pretty good systems in my opinion, or I should say as compared to all the other manufacturers/brands of equipment in the same tier (mid level).
