Which AC Disconnect Box Do You Like The Most?

I need to decide which AC disconnect box to install and I was wondering if there's any specific ones (or just specific brand at least) that you HVAC techs prefer to work with. Seems like there's quite a few different brands and ways they work and I've read a bunch of Reddit posts from techs complaining about them but haven't been able to find any good recommendations for which one to go with. Would plastic or metal be better? Is a pull out style better or a switch/breaker style better?

Thanks,
Harry

“Is a pull out style better or a switch/breaker style better?”

If your referring to a knife switch type disconnect, I would lean towards a pull out, happened to me twice, in my long career, though the knife switch disconnect type where old, both times I was working on a packaged one piece system and shut off the disconnect, lucky I actually opened the cover to look inside to verify ( the 1st time I was a newbie, but still had presence to check ) as it was busted and only two of the three knives disengaged ( 3 phase system ) had I not checked and started troubleshooting system, one blade was still suppling high voltage to the system.

This is my favorite. It's durable, well made, easy to get the plug back in even if you aren't holding your mouth right and it's fused. I prefer fuses because for very little money I can carry every size fuse to cover residential units on my truck. When a breaker fails it's a trip to a store or a referral to an electrician and I find failed breakers regularly.

Whatever the disconnect brand is get a nonfused one. I don’t have any particular loyalty. Home Depot sells pretty decent stuff at a really good prices. Just get a nonfused disconnect either 30 or six depending on how big your circuit is.
