I posted my resume at hvacagent because i want to get into the supermarket refrigeration, I had this lady call me with her broken up english to tell me that she had seen my resume and wanted to know if i would be interested in a interview, I said sure but before i go do you all offer 401K, she says no we dont but we give a bonus at the end of the year that would be more then the 401k, I asked her about drive time, she says we have the tracking device in our vans and you get paid from the time you pick up the vehicle to the time you drop it off, at first i was not sure if i understood her correctly and i asked, do you mean that i have to drive in my POV from santa ana to Tarzana, pick up your van, drop off your van at the end of the day and drive back home in my POV, she says yes, i responded by saying thanks for the job offer but i cant do it, it has to be equally beneficial for the Company and the Employee.

Its freaking unbelievable thats like 80 miles minumum each way, I could understand if i lived in the same city or around the corner but 80 miles away, and whats crazy is that she knew exactly where i lived at, the nerve of some people. You could tell it was another family owned family run company trying to sucker another person in.

A while back I was working for a non union shop before I got in the union. So I sat down with the owner of the comapany and told him I got in the union as was giving him notice. He said he would match their offer. I said what about 5 years from now when the union will be paying me $45/hour and pension, benifits, and annunity? I cant believe he actually though it might fall for it.

You would be surprized by the number of people that fall for it. Just read the union vs non union rhetoric posted on here.

I try to stay away from thoes threads! I have worked in both. I pick the one that pays me the most, continually trains me, looks out for my intrest, and will take care of me into retirement.

Speaking of getting sucked into heated threads I cant beleive I read the entire TAKING THE VAN HOME one!!!!

I am against anyone trying to sucker me in, from what these people have to bring to the table it sounds like their better off getting one of those mexicans from home depot, my first name may be Juan but i sure as heck am not some sucker who is going to put in my time & sweat while the company benefits and i get the shaft.

If i just keep having that mentality about being grateful that i have a job or that someone offered me a job then i am never going to own a home and make real money, like the techs around here in cali.

It is not the worst but I thought the funniest. or dumbest.

Dryers is Hayward Calif.

In the job interview the chief was real excited about interviewing me. He kept asking me can I do this or that and I would explain how I had worked on what ever he was asking. He wanted to know when I could start. As I was out of work at the time I told him the next day. He was like great, uh you realise that we are a little below scale?

I asked how far below. He answer was the pay is only $24/hr with an additional 50 cents in the retirement fund. the job I did land in SF was at scale $32/hr and $6 in retirement.

As I was pulling out of the plant it hit me they lhave a new plant with a new engineroom and they are turnning it over to people that can only get $24 per hour. The plant cost millions and they are saving pennies today.

I personally like any business, family run or corporate, that treats its employees the same way they'd want to be treated. These are far and few between. If a corporation is treating its employees like they should, no way a union would get in there. I see why some need a union, no doubt, and I've worked both.

ok I didn't mean to yell caps were on by mistake. Now i see where u are coming from and understand that you want a fair place to work.

Good Luck , there are great places still out there

Mine was that if I didn't like this job, I could leave and go get another one. That was without a doubt the best offer even given to me. I left. Now I work for myself, and would never even dream of making a statement like that to my employees.

Most other industries you don't get a company vehicle to take home with you. I know in this industry it is common. But now with gas prices, many company are stopping it. I can understand not taking a job if that is a personal requirement. But I wouldn't call it the worst offer I had.

As for my worst job, I was working at a veal farm when I was in high school for a few months. 7 days a week, 4 hours in the morning, 5 hours in the evening. One weekend off a month. The guy was a jerk, and I had no time for school work or friends. I didn't last long.

well i consider it the worst job offer because these people had the gull the nerve to think that i was that stupid or that desperate for a job, these people new exactly where i lived and for them to think that i would drive my vehicle that far is just a plain spit on the face.

Like i said before i would understand if i lived in the same city or around the corner, I would rather leave the service van at the company shop, this would mean less of a headache on trying to find parking at my apartment complex, not worrying about someone breaking in the van, etc, but by the same token companies have to be reasonable as well.

I was working for a non-union company and a union company offered me $2.00 less an hour for the honor of working for them. At the time, my insurance was better than the union's plus I didn't have to pay dues or any of the other stuff.

I declined the offer and the guy acted like I was stupid. He really thought that what they had to offer was so great. I had to laugh. And he would not
budge on the pay rate (they could pay over scale if they wanted to).

I'm not anti-union and am currently working for a union company (once again, I had to take a cut in actual pay- .50 hr. but by now the insurance is better with the union).

I just couldn't get over the dude's arrogance- like it would be some kind of privledge to work for them. Sorry. No can do, Boffo!
