Hi everyone, looking into getting into the HVAC/R field but was wondering what is considered slow season and what happens during this time? Do you get laid off like a school teacher, are your hours cut, etc? Being heating and AC when summer is over wouldn't heating season be kicking in.

Commercial HVAC has less seasonality than residential. And refrigeration has less seasonality that A/C.

One very interesting thing I've noticed through the years is that, unless it is very cold or very hot, work often tends to slow down in the four weeks preceding April 15th.

If the company you work for has a lot of maintenance contracts, you can stay busy all year for the most part. And of course the local climate can affect business patterns.

Over the winter, I had my hours cut back some for about a month when we ran out of contracts to fulfill, but it levels out when we put 14 hours in on extremely cold days.
