Went to a service a/c call on a system that was installed less than a year ago on a mobile home. A/c was added, and furnace was changed to a 90%. Customer said water was dripping down the PVC throughout the winter. And this is what I found. PVC ran right into the old 80% termination

Ya know... If the HACK had just done a better job at the roof... it would have been fine... <grin>

Hacks never cease to amaze me... ALL THAT WORK... just to avoid doing it RIGHT. Amazing...

Looks like a simple fix.

Redo the foil tape job and it should be good to go.
Or use hard-cast tape... stuff lasts longer... <grin>

How about a very large bead of high-temp red silicone?
You will laugh at this... how about a toilet flange... then stick a street 90 in the top... Caulk with silicon under the flange to the old metal... hackery done... <grin>

Kidding aside... running the PVC up the B vent is not new... how one does the top is the point of creativity.

And what do the front page of install instructions say? Something like this furnace is not approved for use in modular homes.

So the vent system is in the return being return is a wild return. So what happens when someone gets sick from this install? I feel sick just looking at it.

Ditto
The manufacturer will not honor any warranty on this unit. What a bargain for the buyer!

Not to mention the unconditioned air that return is pulling from old vent. At least he made a return grille for it, on most downflow mobile home installs around here they just lay a filter on Top/return of AH.

I remember many a mobile with the coil sticking up... and a filter on the door to the furnace room... really now... :(
