I don’t know much about this, but it sounds interesting. I may have to look into this.

Ever source is the electric provider. 2700 sf, more on 1st floor than second, I estimate 1100 up and 1600 down. Probably less than 700 sf of glass? 2 sliders, 2 bay windows, double hung windows everywhere else. House built in 1997.

How do you compare electric usage in kw to gallons of oil? I’d love to know how to do a comparison. I didn’t think heat pump was really an option because our electric rates are so high, but I like the hybrid idea.

Even on the Isl of long with .27 per Kw a heap pump is worth the investment!

Eversource money in your pocket rebates, looks like Contractors need to be on a list to offer them?

Needs to be a AHRI matched system meeting the 16 SEER and 9.5 HSPF minimum threshold, if you want a Hybrid system. Worst case you can purchase a hydronic Air Handler ( minis the cooling coil ) and add a cased coil on top of the Air Handler also.

There is also the Federal Tax Credits

So are you saying I can keep my existing heating set up for now as the secondary heat source, and get the heat pump with hydronic air handlers as my primary heating and cooling? Or do I need a new oil burner as well?

You can keep your existing oil boiler and install either a combo Hydronic Air Handler ( with A/C coil ) or purchase a Hydronic Air Handler ( non A/C coil ) and install a dedicated A/C coil and attach it to the Air Handler and install a Heat Pump outdoor unit, or install a regular Air Handler like the Trane or other brands and install a heating coil either inside the Air Handler ( like the Trane ) or attach it to the Air Handler supply side of the Air Handler, in that case it may be easily to find a AHRI match, as your only matching the outdoor Heat Pump to the regular Air Handler and the heating coil is not in the equation, if….you want to do the Hybrid heat and try for the rebates.

Ct. Rebates for 2022 seem very generous, more so than other states I’ve seen.

The site given you somewhere in there they show all the AHRI matches with pretty much all the manufacturers. You would need to decide on what you want to do 1st then put some effort into finding AHRI matches ( or work with a Contractor, can’t do everything for you ) if you want rebates and the Hybrid system as it needs to meet the 16 SEER and 9.5 HSPF ( Tier one )

https://energizect.com/your-home/solutions-list/air-source-heat-pumps

Go to “Forms and Documents”, then “Air Source Heat Pumps” then “Centrally Ducted” show thousands of matches from all the major HVAC manufacturers with the SEER and HSPF that meets rebates requirements of Ct. again if you decide to go Hybrid and rebates…..

I have oil baseboard heat and a Heat Pump, I never tied them together to switch automatically, it’s on my bucket list to do thou, but at 17 years it’s been like that chances it will not get done. I just run the Heat Pump on warmer days then manually switch to oil baseboard on colder days ( typically starting around 35 degree OD temperatures )

I understand the temperature/conditions where you reside as I’m east of the river in Ct.

This is excellent! Thank you so much for this information. I’m definitely going to investigate this option instead of just going with the same old technology. I never heard of a hybrid system before yesterday. Of course, I don’t usually spend a lot of time thinking about hvac systems. :)

You can go directly to AHRI web-site and use a partial model number to cut to the chase and find matching systems that meet the CT. rebate requirement$ of 16 SEER and 9.5 HSPF

https://www.ahridirectory.org/Searc...uickSearch?category=8&searchTypeId=3&producttype=69&SubmenuId=3523&ProgramId=69

As an example only enter the Trane Air Handler ( where the optional coil slides into ) GAM5 or TAM9 into the “ Quick Search Criteria” then enter under “SEER” enter 16 and under HSPF enter 9.5 shows nothing much more, a bunch of matches for different tonnage of outdoor Heat Pumps meeting Ct. criteria.

Same with the Aspen and ADP Air Handler such as add ADP for the brand, and enter B for the indoor unit model number, for the Aspen enter Aspen for the brand and AFM for the indoor unit model number.

Look for “active” AHRI numbers then click on the blue numbers to view the certificate.

You can do that with other brands of Hydronic coils, as certainly there are more manufacturers than those three brands mentioned.

Work with potential Contractors that understand how the rebates work and know how to maneuver the AHRI site

Great website!
Ok - I tried a couple of searches, so I have a few questions….

The Trane GAM5 search had 3 results, all not eligible for federal tax credit. Is that the same as the rebates?
The aspen search came up with a lot of combos, including Trane as the outdoor unit, many eligible for the tax credit.
I’m assuming the “AFM” or “B” in the model number gives me hydronic coils?

Finally, how accurate are those heating and cooling costs? They seem crazy low!

The GAM5 gives you the rebate rating of 3 combo, but they look like 4 ton systems. Reading it your looking at a 2 ton and a 3 ton yes?

The TAM9 gives you rebate ( meeting Ct. requirements ) in 2 and 3 tons if reading it correctly.

Also the Aspen Hydronic Air Handler ( AFM model ) and the ADP AV Hydronic Air Handler model. Again enter in the area to check

Here’s the Aspen AFM series

http://www.aspenmfg.com/Content_Matrix/Spec_Sheets/AFM-SS-102717.pdf

Here’s ADP B series

http://www.ucompinc.com/wp-content/.../united/images/2012/10/ADP-B-Series-Air-Handler-Product-Brochure-March-2017.pdf

Both of these manufacturers look to meet CT. Rebates with many different outdoor Heat Pumps and are AHRI match.

You have been given several sites, explained how to locate equipment using AHRI sites, recommended to find a Contractor that understands rebates and are on a list to offer them and understands how to maneuver the AHRI web-site. I’m sure you can find several matches and get bids if….you go the Hybrid rebate route.

Federal Tax Credits are completely different than rebates which is money in your pocket, the Tax Credit is when you do your 2022 taxes next year, there is a form you submit. You where given the numbers (SEER and EER and HSPF ) to meet. You where given the sites in post #24

https://www.energystar.gov/about/federal_tax_credits/non_business_energy_property_tax_credits

Under Air Source Heat Pumps

Split Systems:
HSPF >= 8.5
EER >= 12.5
SEER >= 15

Ok - I need to look more carefully at the tonnage.
