True Ref. Compressor won’t shut off, not Tempstute Switch

I have a true Milk crate ref. t-49. The problem is the compressor just keeps running. I bought a new tempature switch. Ran probe through the evaporator coils like it was; although it was shorter than original probe. but the compressor won’t shut off past freezing/ ever. Almost like the new switch is broken...

Both coils seem cold, one keeps freezing up but that’s due to it not shutting off I’d assume.

If I disconnect the switch wires the compressor shuts off.

Is there anyway the tempature prob can be getting heated buy something. It will get down to the 20s F

Edit:

Its a Refrigerator. I bought the new switch online, it was listed for my model. Does the tempature on the prob shut off at a lower temp bc it’s in the Evap?

Could once if the evap coils not be working? I assum there ran in sequence.

It getting down to 18’ could it still be a charge issue?

I live 2hrs from town with no way to transport this thing. I bought it from a restaurant equipment guy who I guess knew sonthing was wrong. Funds are low so what I meant to ask was why that could be the problem. I hear do this do that from a lot of people but I’m the type of person who wants to understand WHY. Also bc I don’t have luxury of throwing money at it. I appreciate the help very much BTW. & from one Veteran to another I mean no disrespect!

How old is this box? And what brand is the compressor?

should be able to get a good idea what is going on by measuring the suction line temperature, especially if the cooler is in the 20s, at that temperature the evaporator coil should be flooded and the suction line should be well frosted and probably around 20 degrees or lower .... it the suction line is that cold then it is probably your brand new thermostat

if it looks like the thermostat is bad take pictures of all the sides ....

Those cold controls measure the evaporator temp, not air temp. A system low on charge maybe able to drop air temp below the desired box temp without the evap getting cold enough to shut off the cold control. This Is why I tell people not to buy any used refrigeration equipment unless it’s at temp when you get there, verified with your own temp gauge. I downloaded a sheet from True about 10 years ago that had the cut-in and out temps of all their mechanical tstats. Don’t have it anymore but you maybe able to find it online. Also it takes some adjustment out of the box and sometimes after 24 hours in the case. Always was a junk design

Just got internet back. - I Learned my lesson, this guy had a store front and everything so i figured it was fine. Then with my little knowledge assumed it was the Temp Control, no big deal; but now it seems like more money :(

I borrowed a Freon Gage from a friend. I'm going to test that & add more if needs it. Iv never done it before, so i need to watch a few videos on YouTube First.

I cant seem to figure out how to Attach a photo or i would of the compressor and plumbing.

Should i release all the Freon in it or just add more if it needs it?

The threads do not match up, the gauge has quick connect fitting and the machine as fine thread hook ups. i was able to unscrew one of the quick connect and add a adapter that was with the hoses he gave me. But the other quick connect is crimped directly to the hose.

Do i need a new Hose with correct fitting attachment? or do they make adapters from the quick connect to the fine thread fitting. - it looks like a old hose.
