was sent to survey the hvac.trane m/n-ycd151b4lodb s/n-j36143358d,put jumpers on test terminals 1&2. after one minute blower motor is energized then economizer. unit would not go into cooling or heating.tried putting jumpers on for 2 to 3 seconds trying to cycle unit &that would not work.since i work fo a competitor unable to get help from trane tech support in ohio.after 30 to 45 minutes of trying, unit finally went into cooling & heat.is this normal?.controls are trane tracer no stats, just sensors, don't know if that matters.i only have two years of experience on carrier, none with trane.also how do you tell the date of manufacture by the m/n & s/n.any help would be greatly appreciated

i think the test terminal is momentary,a QUARTER would do fine as the jump...diconnect power then back up and start the test.touch 1X "remove" the FAN,2X econo,3X cooling then 4X heat unit will run and time out.then goes back onto the tracer setttings or if you had a stat in the space.

Normally, the instructions to use the test terminals are inside the cover. You can jumper test for 3 seconds and each time it should step to the next mode. If you leave it jumpered, it should step through the modes I think. You can also use resistors of different values to make it run in the mode you choose. Everything should be inside the cover on the panel over the electrical section.

Make sure the test terminals are not rusty or corroded, if they are, jump across the terminals on back of the LTB, look for a blinking light on the UCM or RTRM board to be sure you are in test mode, cycle power to unit to reset from test mode at any time. Do not leave the jumpers on when each step starts, remove and re-apply to start next step. Good Luck

i did what was stated on the back of the electrical panel.i went to radio shack & got the resistors & will try that tomorrow.the green light flashes indicating the unit is in the test mode, however about every two minutes the red light flashes once, the test info on electric panel says nothing about the red light.should the test mode take 30 minutes & if not, any suggestions on why.once again thanks to everyone for their input

I think from memory if you touch and hold for a 3 seconds it brings on the fan wait a few secs then do it again then the econ drives open wait a few secs then to it again then comp starts then do it again after a few secs then comp stops and heat stages. fan stays on continiously other functions cycle. Its called step testing. if you leave your jumpers on the stages clycle on in turn every thirty seconds.

in the step mode(I only use this mode) the stage will stay on for an hour then go back to normal operation. you have to kill the power to reset the unit otherwise

It takes an extra minute for the economizer to cycle through, wait a minute then try sometimes you have corrosion on the terminals the makes a good connection difficult.

Is this a VAV unit by any chance, because the test before cooling/heating is the test for the votex vanes/freq drive, and there is a time delay for the heat test-usually 5 minutes. Most guys wont just sit there and wait and start jumping the terms again and start the cycle all over. Learned this one-the hard way-had to ask! Almost condemned the Mainboard. You wont find this on the test menu or the manual- nice Huh?
