I've never seen a better example of why most homeowners should not try to fix their own HVAC systems.

What a sad and tragic event!

This is not something to play around with, folks. Please call a professional when you have HVAC problems. We're happy to help our homeowner friends in many ways, but we don't believe it's safe to tell you how to repair your own system.
