Just wondering what you guys prefer/ use on gas fittings. Regular Teflon, yellow Teflon, or pipe dope? I prefer using pipe dope.

Teflon tape only for me. And only enough to make the seal, not "wrap X amount of times and drive it home".

Master's Metallic dope (the Black Death), with yellow or orange tape above 1". Dope only under 1".

usually dope. I think more for convenience than anything else. I have had good luck with both. when I do use tape it is the yellow. I try to only have one type stocked.

Pipe dope only, it is against code to use Teflon tape. Natural gas will deteriorate the tape over time and the joint can leak.

Pipe dope. I use the Megaloc. Done properly and keeping the tape off the first 2 threads is fine for using thread tape. Too many guys pile it on and then little pieces of tape get cut off and go into gas valves etc.

On water, with the crappy fitting threads quality now days, I put on one layer of tape then dope.

Dope any kind and drive it home. Peoples lives are at stake here never put gas pipe together thinking to make it easy to take apart. Allways back up flex fittings and do the same. Like a german virgin gootandtite!

The Teflon issue about deteriorating has been repealed, but we must do what local code dictates. If it is a big gas job, dope if it's a gas valve replacement tape because it's already on my tool pouch.
