I have a small studio that has a Mitsubishi heat pump with a sez-kd18na indoor unit in the crawl space that is operated by a MRCH1 wireless controller. Works great and is cheap to run but I'd like to upgrade to a SMART system and would appreciate advice as to the best means of doing this simply and cost effectively. Should I use only Mitsubishi equipment and, if so, what would be controller and process for connecting it? Or would a third party system work just as well? Would I have to alter any hard wiring?

Any and all advice appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, GenesisRefrig. That looks like the best solution. I had a look at the Sensibo Sky controller but I'm not sure if it would work and it has a fairly high (7%) one star rating on Amazon. Moreover, it appears that in app purchases have to be made to obtain full benefit.

I spend part of the winter in the south of France so I want to be able to monitor and adjust climate conditions in my home here while I'm away so, when it's necessary, I can dehumidify or add heat as needed to avoid condensation or other issues. I do the same with my French home where I've installed SMART hydrometers/thermometers so I can monitor temp and humidity and adjust either by means of SMART plugs fitted to radiators and dehumidifiers. Before we had no dehumidifiers and used to set the stats at around 10oC but would often find the place damp when we returned after being away. The SMART controls have solved that.

Just a note here, kumo cloud currently only works on US based cell phones and you won't even find it in the Canadian app store (just throwing that out there since it says you're in BC). If you try to side load it from somewhere else you'll get the notification that it's not available in your region. Since you already have an MHK1 you could try to find an older Honeywell Redlink Gateway and it'll connect to your MHK1 via the Honeywell app. Otherwise you'll have to use a conventional thermostat adapter and the smart thermostat of your choice.
