What tools do u need for hard to reach hsi and flame sensor ? (What type of hardware is it usually )

Also for residential service calls what wrenches should I carry any gear wrenches ?

Is a level or mirror needed ?

This is just what I carry for hard to reach stuff

No box/ratchet wrenches or level...if I need them then chances are I'm going back to the van anyway for other stuff.

Most of those items are easily identifiable but some of the more obscure ones are a sanded down 5/16 socket on an extension. Sometimes a fastener is too close to a bracket to get a fat wall driver on like a malco bit. Also those 4 piercing probes are made by power probe. 0

BTW most fs and hsi are just 1/4 or 5/16 screws and not bad to get to. I think there are some lennox ones that I've run into that were a total pita but other than that they're usually fine.

That's a wright tools 12pt offset 1/4 & 5/16. 12pt is important because you can engage a fastener at more angles and offset is important because it makes room for your fingers. The use is similar to what I was saying about the socket I have sanded down. Sometimes a fastener is too close to a bracket or something and you can't get a fat wall driver on it. The socket is for going directly on and the wrench is for going in on the side. Here's an example right now of where I'm using the socket...

Regarding flame sensors to me it seemed some Carrier 90%ers were the worst. It would be either the HSI or the flame sensor was very tough access. I had a long probably 18" flexible 1/4" driver to reach the flame sensor for removal. I also had 2 very long angled needle nose pliers. One I had Scotch Brite on and the other I had cloth to wipe it down after the Scotch Brite to do it in place. It actually worked well.

Try reloading it. My last post had 3 pics and they are all showing up in my thread.

For tools in the pockets, I have a 6-way Craftsman screwdriver.
Still available I think at Ace....good comfty rubber handle.
The 1/4" & 5/16" ends work good for those tight spots where standard drivers are too fat.
Grind the socket ends down as they wear.

If the handle is still in the way then the double box shown above will run the screwdriver bit in the other end.
The box will also run the screwdriver bits as a right angle drive.
The box is also handy on the Malco flip-able driver for right angle drive.

Also handy is a 4" adjustable wrench and the smallest craftsman "pump pliers".

Where would u guys use that right angle hex bit ?
Any stubby screwdriver ?
I promise if you stay in the trade long enough you will need it.

For example, I recently had to work on an exhaust fan where some dumb ass lost all the screws to the cap so I needed that right angle driver to run in some self tapers. Even then I barely had clearance and that's why I bought that one and the low profile bits. My old angle driver wouldn't even work. When you're in a tight area these things are a real lifesaver. They are not things you need every day but when you need them you REALLY need them.

Yes I do keep a klein stubby ratcheting screwdriver as well. In a tight area the ratchet action help a lot.

Whqt size pipe wrench for gas unions?
Also would pump pliers be sufficient for unions
Well what size unions are you talking about?

Right angle socket or even the box wrench if sheet metal screws were installed and then a wall built next to it.

For 1/2" unions, a 14" pipe wrench (good aluminiun) and 12" Knipex Alligator Pliers.
I have a 10" pliers also. Great grip with thin jaws.

But sometimes need an 18" if someone really cranked on it.
Electrical EMT pipe is good for cheaters, 1 1/4" hammered a little flat on one end to fit snuggly over handles. 24-30" long.
