No, he's a 78 year old (18 at the end of WWII) German conservative who has held a position as the head of Catholic doctrine affairs (formerly the "Inquisition") who once wrote a paper on the Supremacy of the Roman Catholic Church.
Let's see, Italians following an enigmatic German leader who believes if bias supremacy...sounds vaguely familiar.

No mustache, but I have read that he was in the Nazi youth group for a while. I have not verified if that is true or not.
Doesn't matter; it is a political disaster to have a German who lived during WWII being in that position. He is just too close to that situation to believe that it has had no long term affects on him. He must have had family and friends who died or worse, killed mercelicly.
This is the reason why no foreign born person can be president of the U.S., there needs to be a time buffer between any possible personal link to other convictions.
I cannot wait to hear how Jewish factions are going to respond to this. Most of the worlds Catholics were hoping for a more lenient pope, most likely one of Latin American origin. This guy truly has been the head of the Catholic Gestapo.

Ummm, coolwhip; no one is condemning Ratzinger for being German. He is simply too close to WWII to be completely and utterly trusted that the events of that war have not affected his psychy.
It would even be better if he were younger and was not exposed to the events of WWII. Not only was he exposed to the Nazi movement, he was part of it. Repent or not, that is not a good stigma for the Catholic Church to have to defend.
Do you really need a court condemnation to convince you that millions of people, mostly Jews, were slaughtered at the hands of German Nazis? Just what do you think happened? Maybe they all shot each other until the last one standing shot himself and fell into the ditch!
All I am saying is that this is not good PR for the Catholic Church. I am sure the man is ok, as far as an extreme conservative defender of Catholic doctrine can be ok.

Ummmm Im only concerned about the facts and not believing one lie over another Robo. I dont like the fact that when one hears or reads the word german that nazi somehow follows close behind. This type of conditioning needs to be taken out. They are not synonomis.
