Im not sure your helping by installing a dry unit ,install a matched coil and condenser with 410a in it
What is so darn difficult or wrong about dry R22 units? We've all changed condensers only for years before 2010. Why is it because the condenser is shipped without freon somehow all of a sudden it's not the same as condensers made 5yrs ago. They're just dry. It's as if some of you have never replaced a compressor or fixed a leak in a condenser. Cause if you had, you would have recovered all the freon, hence dry unit. Just hook it up, press test, vacuum and charge. How hard is that?

How is putting in a 3ton Goodman with a 3ton Aspen coil mismatched? or any other brand for that matter. Using different mfr isn't mismatching. Putting in a 3ton condenser with a 2ton A-coil would be mismatched, but why would you think any of us pro's would do that?
I think you misunderstood my post. When I referred to mismatching with an older coil I was talking about putting a new 13 SEER dry unit on lower SEER coil like 10 SEER or maybe even less. I'm sure that is really the most common application for dry units & matching them with 13 SEER coils is secondary. I sell my share of those jobs but its a customer's choice to save money & I have no problem with it. I do it all the time with no problems as far as the comfort & reliability side is concerned. If I put in a complete split system though you can bet it is going to be an ARI match. Also to answer your question, a 3 ton on a 3 ton is a mismatch if it is not an approved match & any manufacturer would call it a mismatched system & could void the warranty if they desired. Some manufacturers (I think Nordyne is one) will not honor a compressor warranty without an approved matched coil.
I've already been through it with them.

I agree with u but I have noticed that when you are going from ground to attic unit you always need a bit more to make up for the rise, even if the basement unit is the same distance the 2nd floor usually needs a bit more because of rise and possibly extra bends, you have to weigh in to at least get into bp with charge, I love these guys who think you don't have to pull a vac just purge er out and let er fly. Why does my condenser sound like somebody gurgleing mouth wash?

That one is on you, you let him put it in and start up without you, your fault. My apprentice does ductwork and when he has that down we will move on to the next, but not without me watching his every move. Its only gonna cost me my sunday in the middle of the summer when its not working. I make the mistake its on me, my guys make mistake also on me.The way it works unfortunatly, but someone who forgets the let the nitro out obviously isn't in the habit of pressure testing because whether dry or not thats step 1 before pulling vacuum. It held a vac open er up and let er rip. NO NO NO!!!

So what do you do in this case? Do you send it right back to the supplier and ask for a different unit?
I would charge it with nitrogen and look for the leak. Too many Lennox units have leaks at the brazed joints which is field repairable. If it's in the coil, send it back.

This would have worked great, had it been a new pre-charged unit with a long assed line set :grin2:
Haha that would be true but his refrigerant calculation was bunk even still. I was infuriated on many levels. I fear I will never stop having to babysit. Even the really good guys need to be babysat in some way. I'm starting to realize how much of a catch I was when I was employed by other companies... I'm going out tomorrow to install the new one properly...
