Hi,
My upstairs 2.5-ton Trane XE1000 A/C hadn't been blowing as cold as it should (10-15 degrees cooler from air return compared to supply vents) for the past 5 or so years. The downstairs 3-ton XE1000 blows out much cooler air.
I went online looked up authorized Trane dealers and called around hoping for good pricing in the winter.
The phone operator informed me they'd do an A/C inspection and clean the condenser for a flat fee. There would be additional fees for other services needed. However the tech didn't do any sort of inspection. He went upstairs turned to A/C on, connected a digital meter to two valves on the condenser, spent a couple minutes cleaning the condenser from the outside with a hose spraying into it underneath the grill slits. After waiting about 5-10 minutes for the condenser to dry out he proceeded to add what he stated was 2 lbs of R-22 in about 5 minutes.
I was billed the flat inspection fee and for 2 lbs of R-22.
I'm not sure how added 2 lbs in such a short time frame. And if it was 2 lbs low wouldn't the A/C blow hot air instead? The tech was at my home for less than 30 minutes total and charged me more than a visit to the doctor's office in that time, feel like I got massively ripped off.
I had asked the operator if they would disassemble the case when they cleaned the condenser and she said yes, however the tech instead said spraying it from the outside is how it's designed to be cleaned.
Do I have any recourse or am I just stuck paying such an enormous bill?
Thanks
