I have inherited the work for a chinese restaurant, mainly because I seem to be the only one around here that can communicate with the owner enough to have any type of meaningful conversation with him. Anyway, they have a walk in freezer that looks to be about 40 years old, the only tag on it says "Serial No 8915" and on the front above the door it says "Commercial Fixture Co. Indianapolis, IN"

I can't find any info on this company and and I need to find out what refrigerant it has as well. I don't have a lot of experience with low temp stuff like this so bear with me.

The compressor tag is wore off except for the oil it uses says "Alkabenzene oil" The metal tag on top says "7651 SC" then below that "10719" the below that "AH410ET-168"

All I found on the compressor using the AH410ET-168 makes me think it used R-12 but the oil makes me think that maybe it was changed, maybe 404A? I was running late and needed info on what I had so I failed to open the evaporator case to get info on the TXV ect. I will do that next time when I have more time to investigate. I had to defrost the coil to get it running and the low side runs around 10 psi and high around 120 psi. No sub cool reading, next time though. :)

Anyway, anyone have any info of the company that made the box or the compressor?

The box manufacturer is really of no consequence to you. They just built the box and likely had nothing to do with the refrigeration in it.

That AH410ET-168 number is a Tecumseh Bill of Material number which roughly tells me this is a 1 HP low temp R12 compressor...probably the AHA2445AXD. Tecumseh has supplied all their R12 replacements with AB oil since the early/mid 1990's.

Chances are there's no indication what refrigerant is actually in there. So if you're getting into diagnosing any refrigerant side problems you'll need to know.

There are a dozen different R12 replacements available and if you don't know for sure which one it is, recover it, install a new filter-drier, evacuate and recharge with (since it's an R12 freezer) either R12 or MP66 (R401B).

Thanks for the info, I need to just replace the charge as you said and go from there. I think it has a leak but the jury is still out on that.

I need the info on the box because I need to replace the door gaskets and the door jam plates, they are rusted and falling apart. I forgot to mention that earlier. I'll be going back in a day or two and will check the TXV but I'm betting it will be a R12.
