Well, I found a great deal on a new Smith QuickBraze. Had no intention of buying it, but the local supply house had an open box, for a steal, so I bought it. Played around with it for a few minutes between jobs and it is fairly amazing. I like the single tip, works really well. I like the rosebud, wow! that thing puts out the heat big time! The twin tip is ok, I don't use them a lot, but they're not bad. The multi flame "C" tip is some different. I never got used to a captn hook, so I'm not a big fan of those kinds of tips. Any suggestions on how to get used to those tips?
I really was impressed with how quick you can heat up copper and get er done. That small torch looks like a toy, but when you light it up, it shows it's real potential, and it is definitely not a toy. I'm going to be doing an install later this week, 7/8"X3/8" so we'll see how it works on that, but from the little playing I did, it was no problem to get a beautiful braze. I've have been using air acetylene for a long while, and am going back to ocy/act for the quick heat, and have been using a small Uniweld and Harris torch, which work pretty well, but this tiny little torch would be a great tool to save space and it is soooo easy to get all around the tube without having to stand on your head or fight the hoses.
One thing I've noticed is I can't get anywhere near the pressures they recommend. I tried 8 psi on the single tip and no way, the act alone was a good 1/2" off the tip. I might have gotten to 8psi with the rosebud. The thing worked great and the handle never got the slightest bit warm, so it looks like it was set properly.
Anyone who's been using these have any good tips or tricks for their use?
