I own a house on Seven Springs Blvd. in New Port Richey. The R-22 system is old but 'still working' as they say. <g> This spring I hosed out the coils and removed the massive overcharge. It was then running fine at 74º*setpoint when I was there and at 80º when the house was empty.
A month ago I rented the house. The first week there they called: No A/C - the coil is frozen. I was working in Port Richey so I ran over, found the system operating as before, with the tenant of course insisting that they didn't set the thermostat for 60º*overnight and so forth. <g>
So I installed a clip-on anti-frosting stat on the suction line at the evaporator. My memory for it is that I series-ed it with one of the wires to the condensing unit. Opens at 35º - closes at 50º.
But . . . now twice recently they have called to say: "the coil froze again."
So maybe I didn't wire it properly? <g> And I will admit: I did not check to make sure the stat worked and did, in fact; switch off the condensing unit when the coil got to 35º.
So? Anybody near enough to do this thing for me? Just making sure the anti frosting stat is working and wired correctly will probably be enough - but maybe it really is some other issue? Whatever - call me when you get there.
I'm in NJ and won't be back there for at least a month. Happy to pay you travel and all. I'm just leery of the property management company just calling someone out of the phone book.
BTW: Another thing which occurs to me is this: how about relocating the anti-frosting stat to the beginning of the coil? Instead of the suction line? What do you think?
But anyway - any takers? <g>
