Iam looking into getting NATE certified. What is the cost for getting one cert.? Do I need to get the training or is it a common sense test? All I am interested in is the a/c service portion.:)
John,

The price of the test vary depending on who is giving the test.

Training is always good, but if you study some material and have a good bit of field experience you should be fine.

You'll need to take the core test and the a/c test to get certified. I recommend you take the core and the Heatpump service test. By taking the heatpump test you get the a/c cert and the heatpump cert for both service and installation. Invest your money wisely!

If you want to talk conspiracy take a look at the New York City Refrigeration Operating Engineers License. Most of the prep schools charge up wards of $6,000.
The test now is a computer simulator, not like in the 60's when I took mine at an operating Ammonia Plant. :p

RSES Backs Nate ? Where did you get that idea? My RSES chapter has been trying to get some type of Nate training and testing program going thru RSES for over a year with no sucess. Our president is top notch, a real go getter and always pushing more training both with in and outside the company and thru RSES and has not had any luck. To really suport someting you have to do more than just say you support it. You have to put some money behind it. Just ask Hillary. She supports her campaign by loaning 5 million dollars to it. Which she will get back with interest when she loses in November.:D
RSES certainly backs NATE and the Executive Vice President of RSES is a member of The Board Of Trustees for the NATE organization. If your chapter is interested in providing NATE certification contact the NATE headquarters in Virginia.

It sounds like a movie!

This does sound funny "NATE THE CONSPIRACY" sounds like a movie Mel Gibson would produce, the story line would be that NATE is causing global warming and the climax would be that NATE hired TWILLI to build a one Trillion ton heat pump to do it! :D

Instant Blockbuster! ok I'm going 2 bed now!
