I have a maintenance contract with a company on my three A/C units. Refrigerant charges are included as part of the maintenance contract at no extra cost. During the tune up this spring, one unit needed a few pounds of refrigerant. I wasn't home at the time of service, however noticed after the work was complete a new sticker on the side of the unit indicating it was charged with MO99 instead of R-22 which is what the manufacturer sticker says it runs on.
It seems like common sense that you should not mix refrigerants. Did some searching online and called a few other companies, all of which confirmed you should never mix. One guy told me they just voided my warranty by mixing since if there's ever a problem and it goes back to the factory, the first thing they do is test what's in there. It even says on the MO99 website that you cannot mix it with R-22. Instead you should convert by draining all R-22, replace dryer, seals/gaskets, etc., then refill with all MO99. They just added to MO99 to the existing R-22 and admitted that on the phone.
The company is sticking to it's fine to mix since it was only a few pounds and that no one has R-22 anymore which I know is false...it just costs more. I'm thinking someone screwed up and they are trying to cover it up instead of making good on correcting it.
My question is what are my options and what should I do? Is my unit being damaged every time it's running now or although you shouldn't mix, in all reality everything will be fine? The unit is only 6 years old. Appreciate the help!
