I need to replace a dud compressor on a parallel system which has mineral oil (I think !) It's got 2 x 6hp Tecumseh tin cans piped to common suction and discharge and runs on R22. The new compressor supplied has Polyoester oil charge.
If I fit this comp as is, I may end up with a 50/50 mix of poly and mineral oil.
Any thoughts on this as I don't want the new comp to die.
I want to avoid having to change the oil in the existing unit as it's running ok and I would need to take it off and tip it upside down to drain it.
How does one identify an unknown oil type ?

you can leave the poe oil in it no problemo with the mix,
except that the new oil will act like cleaner in your unit.

poe is an excellent cleaner and will carry copper oxides and other contaminants, that mineral oil left in place

Thanks Gerryboy for your quick reply ! I registered only a few minutes ago!
The system has a doubtful service history, so a BIG drier will be fitted.!
Happy Christmas

i would not add poe to that system

poe will grab all the sh** in the system and sling it through out and plugg eveything.. also will pick up any moisture and carry it through

simply change the POE oil in your new compressor and be done with it.

but do NOT turn it upside down in order to accomplish this task. :D
