good morning, we have metasys on our building now and we are thinking about changing to the trane tracer. i was wondering if anybody thinks this is a good idea or bad. and if you have any likes or dislkes about either of these systems. also the reason we are thinking about changing is because our metasys is not working, i believe it got a virus and jc will not fix it.

No offense.......But you are also talking about one company that bends it's customers over the barrel.....and switching to another company that bends it's customers over the barrel!!!

You gotta be kiddin' me. You're going from one proprietary system to the most ultra-proprietary system?

Look at Zarembad's comments. At least with JCI there are tons of other outlets to help you. Have you tried this forum?

Usually when something like this occurs, someone has just pissed off someone else. Did JCI even give you a price to fix it?

Post the problem here and maybe someone can help. There are many many independent people here tha can help you. Maybe you could even connect with someone form here and they can go over and service it for you.

Do you realize with Trane that's it - no one else can service it or provide you with parts etc. You will forever be in there debt.

If you want to rip it out, then putting in time clocks would be better than painting yourself into a corner.

Metasys is a better product, but you need to a good local office. Trane is a step down IMO. But it works great on smaller office building without a lot of sequences.

That's like the chicken choosing between the fox and the raccoon. Either one will eat you alive.
I would suggest looking into a dealer that will install LonMark certified controls if you are thinking about ripping out the Metasys. LON is an open protocol that many manufacturers use. If you already have Trane equipment it is likely than you can get LON interfaces from Trane for the units and chillers etc. You need to be a little careful though because some companies such as TAC and Honeywell sell a LON based product that is not configurable with standard LON software tools.

Just remember everyone's bias here! In here everyone sells the best and most reliable control system. Keep in mind it's not the controls but the local vender. Every control system works, and they all take special skills and software to configue.

thank you anyway but you would have to have jci's program to do this, our ncm just went blank, then they tried to reprogram it and it didn't work.
so thats why we are going to do something else.

It sounds like you might not have had your current database backed up.
If you did have a good backup, then there couldn't be but so much to it, even with replacing your NC(s).
If you don't have a backup, then GPL is not your friend.

IMO it is JCIs job to keep database backups current, but also the customers job to make sure that they have a copy for their selves.

You could contact a local JCI rep (not the JCI branch) and have a FX40 (Tridium JACE) put in to replace the NCM. This would preserve your N2 device investment and allow expansions with LON devices.

And installing a FX-40 (hack special) and installed by wanna be's is the

answer? Please!

Yeah, why not use the local JCI branch and have them ship a tech from India.

I guess your opinion is unbiased Indy?

Get lost this question is for people that are not brainwashed……

JCI Controllers

The Johnson field controllers are pretty much bullet proof. Our NCM just blew up recently. NCM's always tended to be tempermental. We had Johnson install a Network Automation Engine "NAE". It's a really good system and can work with any computer with Windows XP and Internet Explorer. It's also pretty easy to use.
