Anybody had success with installing the N2 tools on 32 bit Windows 10? I haven't tried yet, but curios if anyone has had to go down that road yet.

This mean all the branch guys are getting Win 10 laptops soon? I just switched to Win10 about a month ago, and was able conquer the VM beast I had fought for years with my old laptop. I was never able to get my old machine to connect to any asc or DX controller running a Win 7 32 bit VM. When I got the new machine I thought what the heck I will give it a try. Using my old VM holy cow it worked the first time! So I'm sure you know you can use a VM for that. I'm also curious if someone has made it work with Win 10 32 bit as well.

The branch guys have been getting Windows 10 64bit for awhile now when their computers are replaced. I would guess they will all be swapped out within a year or so.
There have been a few calls wondering if Windows 10 32 bit works. I haven't had to try it yet.
The branch techs will be all 64 bit Windows 10 with 32 bit Hyper V windows XP or windows 7

Yea I downgraded a Win10 64bit to 32bit and it worked with HVAC Pro. However tried the same on other PCs and it didn’t work for them. Gotta get lucky.
Believe most JCI techs are getting VMs as well on their new laptops.

Well since the days of staying out, and drinking myself silly are over. I decided to sit down and build a Win 10 32bit Vm for Ctools this morning. It all appears to be working great. I have tested a UNT and DX9100 I had laying around the house, and upload and download speeds seem normal. I'm still using my edgeport usb to serial adapter and a B&B 232 to 485 adpater and it works great. My current job is replacing two N-30's with Jaces so I will be using this a lot to gather all the needed files. I'm hope it continues to work under normal field conditions. Some of our other guys are buying cheap netbooks and loading them with XP or whatever they get to work with Ctools. This has got me thinking of doing the same then buying VMplayer and running the VM I just built for all the older stuff. It's nice to have the small size for field work, and to not have to drag a 2k dollar laptop on the roof in the rain. Food for thought I guess. Thanks for the input on this subject.

Metasys Integration with Tridium

Depending on the size / complexity of the N2 buses you might want to take a look at our S4 Open: BACnet-N2 Router. It's a much more powerful integration platform than the 3rd party N2 driver for Tridium. For simple jobs absolutely use what you are comfortable with. My contact info is in my profile if you would like more details or would like to consider the option.

Fyi...N2 pass through via NAE is in hospice care with a DNR....it will no longer work with the next Metasys revision. Sad. It had a good run. I had been advocating for a tool that would run on a 64 bit OS that would at least give basic upload/download functionality.
But there was “No funding model”.

Well good to know. We do a large amount of metasys work also. I can think of one large site that has 15 NAE's in the main building, and the maintenance staff is constantly on the PC in the basement using passthru to connect to things on floors above.Man I can hear them screaming now about it not working. Guess no more upgrading that site. Thats the no collect funds model!! LOL

A fun anecdote that helps flesh out the N2 discontinuation thing.
I was a NEW JCI guy, and they had rolled out a forum, similar to Niagara Central. As I trolled around there, I got my hands on the original HVAC-Pro install CD from the pile at the local branch and installed. I noticed there was an animated character that was like the old Clippit paperclip assistant from MS office, but was busted (if that reference means nothing to you, google it youngsters). so I decided to see if I could fix that - it took maybe 30 minutes and it was working and I thought 'this might be something to put on that forum'. So I did. Posted Screenshots and such.
Directly the next day I got a call at like 6;15 am as I was driving to a jobsite. It was someone from a Milwaukee number whose name I did not recognize. He was SEETHING angry. He told me tersely that he had seen my post on the forums and that if I posted any more content that in any way keeps N2, related tools or content relevant or functional will result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination.
Uh.... who is this again?
Anyhow, it was really not hard at all to NOT help anyone... so I let it be. I am new, I do not know nuthin about nuthin, maybe 3 or 4 mos at JCI.
Around 3 months later I was in Baltimore at a training with a guy that actually seemed sane and so I asked him about that. He got this 'Aww Geeze not again...' look on his face and asked me who it was. I told him and he just said 'There are powers that want N2 to die off. What he did is not appropriate, there is an internal HR department that you not only can but SHOULD turn him in to. Report it immediately and you are covered.' I had never worked at a large company so that was news to me at the time.
This was around 2013, give or take a year.
The caller whose name I do not remember was in a product development division at JCI - randomly calling controls technicians out of state at all hours threatening to fire people. Freakish. I cannot imagine the day to day over there. It was bad enough at the branch.
The saddest part is that there are people that are so drunk on the blue cool-aid that they view their efforts as not only meaningful but so critical that this sort of action is warranted.
Anyhow, every little bit fleshes out the whole thing a little - like repeated conversations where JCI says - nope, not possible, and Sam respectfully saying 'Actually we are doing it now....' Then lo and behold controllers come out. it is all parts of the puzzle.
