Meetings-Is it worth it

We have another meeting. This one is a breakfast meeting at a local hotel banquet room. We are being paid for it, well at least the hourly staff is, the salary guys get, ahh you know.

My question is, is it worth it. I don’t really seem to see anything come out of these meetings. Everyone talks about what should be done and what needs to be done and sometimes how it can be put into place (policies). It just never seems to happen.

What do you think?

Sales meetings, staff meetings, tech meetings, management meetings. When does it all end?

Meetings are mandatory here and also paid. But there are others who think they are the exception to the rule.

When this business changed owners, we used to hold monthly meetings with employee of the month included and various other work related topics. As time passed and people left, the meetings dwindled away and became less of a meeting as everything spoken of was a "lack of...". The E.O.T.M. also went down a one was street. Meetings have now been far and few between. We have a mandatory meeting this coming Monday. I wonder who will make it.

I never know what the mandatory meetings are about, but I'm there...since they are mandatory. Once there, we all can ask questions and respond to discussed topics...as well as bring up others.

Meetings and Reorganization ...both give the illusion of progress.

I saw the following quote framed on a college professor's wall about 10 years ago and wrote it down to memorize it.

"We trained hard, but it seemed every time we were beginning to form into a team, we'd be reorganized. We seem to face every new challenge by reorganizing and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while creating confusion, inefficiency and demoralization."

If you get just one decent idea from a meeting, it was worth your time. If you learn just one thing about our business, it was worth your time.

Plus, you get fed for free.

Go to these meetings with an open mind and you just may make it worth your while.

Month to month, our meetings are always pretty much carbon copies. You practically have all the spiel memorized-
"Yeah, we're doing good; we're geaining a greater market
share and it all due to your hard work." It's a cross between a glorified pep rally and a propoganda presentation. Yeah, sometimes they accentuate it with pie charts and a Power Point presentation just to keep us guessing. Bottom line- extremely boring and worthless.
No pertinent information of use save the introduction of "new hires".
