Some real junk. The gaterotors are made of plastique. Its a basic version of the JE Hall single rotor screw that was pretty much bullitproof. Sadly to say McQuay forgot the bullitproof part of the equation.

the public school system has installed a number of them along with trane and carrier. they had good luck with the trane and carrier. the mcquay units were giving them alot of trouble. as far as the compressor i changed one out for them last year and started the new one up and about 20 seconds later i had 150-175 pressure drop in the subcooler alone. guess what was in there? little pieces of the gaterotors. major job to clean up. chiller was only 3 years old and no extended warranty.

I had a hotel tht has one, every year for cooling startup our maint. procedure should have been (check cond fan motors and replace compressors.) We also had mcquay come out and remove headers on cond. coil and clean out each tube full of stargate material they also installed an oil seperator so the bearings actually got oiled instead of being washed out with refrigerant.

I believe the 3200 (along the the frame 4) are the 134a compressors which have shown to be very reliable and robust.

It is European design and been used over there before being introduced in States on the Model AGS and WGS chillers.

What's the latest, with regards to reliability, on the McQuay Stargate Single-Screw Compressors (Frame 3200)?

Any opinions, experiences ??
We have had our Dual Stargate Chiller (approx 240 Ton Unit R410a) since 1999. The only problem we had was the seals from the motor studs leak and were replace with a better product. Overall the unit has performed very well.

Dude, the thread is going on two years old. Please look at the dates before hashing up dead news.
