Grainger shows LPS ThermaPlex Multi-Purpose Bearing Grease (a lithium complex) as a substitute for Mobil Polyrex EM (a shear-stable polyurea). It's been common knowledge not to mix lithium and polyurea grease. I have found a chart that shows lithium complex grease and shear-stable grease as compatible. What's you take?"

I would avoid mixing them if possible. Compatibility has a lot to do with which thickeners are used in the greases. While some lithium complex and polyurea greases are indeed compatible, it's difficult to know which ones are for sure without a compatibility test. I'm not sure I would trust data from Grainger. You also rarely know if old grease you might be mixing new grease with is actually contaminated with grease that is not mutually compatible.

I like Grainger. I've bought a lot of stuff there over the years. But they are not my go to source for grease compatibility.

The Grease Bible sounds interesting, but I guess I can't see it with out a professional membership. How much does the membership cost?
