I hope I am posting this in the right section...

I have been searching and searching on the forums and on the web for information on LG mini split systems. I see some negatives on their older systems, but they seem to have a new redesign of what appears to be the last 2 years. These are about an inch thinner than the Mitsubishi's and also have a higher SEER rating. I am hoping to install a couple systems (one dual, one single), and the dual with ceiling recessed units. The problems with the mitsubishi recessed units is they run about 5-6k for the parts comparing to 2.5k parts for the LG and the SEER rating is 14-15 comparing to 19-21 for the LGs. I have searched and found problems with the LGs on this forum, but my question is the newer LG units appear to have a redesign, so maybe the issue has been fixed?
LG's SEER rating for the ceiling units is quite higher than all including Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Daikin, and more. Why are the SEER ratings soo much lower for ceiling units? Also these ceiling units have no controllers it seems. I would think these would be more popular. My wife doesn't want a huge 9" depth sticking out of the wall as this seems to be a generally accepted footprint of the Mr. Slims, while the LGs run 7.5-8".

LG's new design has heads that look like this: <Links to direct purchase sites are not permitted.>
They are grey and not as bulky as some of the older it seems. This is not the art cool which have a mirror finish.

Anyways, any input is greatly appreciated- regarding the right mini split - wall or ceiling etc.

I just installed a LG Ductless Inverter type 18k BTU (Branded Goldstar) in my own house.. I hate it, I bought from Lennox a clear out. I find the indoor unit loud and it sounds like a bearing has gone in the Evap Motor. The outdoor unit also makes a hi pitched whine on hi speed. When I sprayed water on the Condensor motor fan blade, it would stop.

Anyways, I eneded up doing a warranty on the Evap motor, Condensor Motor, and Fan blades.... What a pain in the AS## to take apart, Changed the evap motor and the ticking noise is still there, i think it is actually coming off the control board, It may be a relay chattering or something to do with the inverter circuit?. (Leaving it till Next Year) I decided to try the outdoor fan blades only because the one I took off had weights on it, it doesn't seem to make a noise anymore??

LG's are a pain getting parts and doing warranty, If i had my time back, I would have bought a Daiken! I also tried calling for tech support and they are giving me my compititions numbers!!

Stay away, I was ready to rip mine off the wall!
Just My 2 Cents!

Are you buying this system thru an established dealer or off the internet? If an established dealer then they should be able to answer your questions, but if off the internet then you're kinda on your own cause we can't assist with DIY projects. Against forum rules.

If you are asking me the Question, I bought from a Distributor. Lennox aka Parts Plus, every project I do is DIY especially when I am licensed to do it!!..

I am purchasing on the internet, but I am having a licensed installer do the installation. I know professional installers often carry 1-2 lines, and I want to have input on the esthetics where possible... Of course if the thing is going to break down in 6 months, I don't want to use it, but when I've seen some of these units they do stick far off the wall and the installer has little knowledge as to slim units. He said they all run about the same and will install it.

I'm just wondering if people are familiar with the ceiling mounted kits then? The easy answer is go with Mitsubishi I know, but I honestly think they have a poor "look" to them. The same as "go with a honda or toyota", Hyundai's have almost the same if not the same reliability but they do not have the same name. I hope this does not come off rude, I am a guest on this forum, not a pro installer, I am just wondering about those that are familiar with these systems.

Flame away if you feel the need.
