Informant II Is the best I've ever had. Sent my Dtek select in for service and it came back with a power switch problem. Now, a couple years later it won't hold a charge. Ready to send it to the dump.

I bought the Bacharach Informant II the first year it came out, and I have had more failures than success with it. Had many systems where the Informant didn't find a leak, and then I would put dye in and go back and find the evap leaking pretty badly. Now maybe Bacharach has improved the unit, but I am not impressed. I have replaced the sensor twice since I bought it just to make sure.

I bought the Inficon D-Tek Select a year ago and have had better results, but still not great. Inside it has worked great, but outside not so much. I had a R-22 condenser last year that the entire bottom 3 to 4 inches of the coil was covered in oil. Couldn't get a blip out of the Select.

Now based on recomendations here and on another site, I just bought the TIF ZX-1. I'm looking forward to see how it works.

My Inficon D tek Select died. Looking for new leak detector. Considering buying Inficon again. Just want to ask if there is anything better on the market right now? What do you, guys, think about Fieldpiece leak detector?
I have been using the INficon D-Tek Select since it was first introduced, I do admit there were some issues with the very early design but inficon quickly worked on correcting these issues. In the past I have used everything from corona discharge, Ion pump, heated diode, and Infrared. I must say I have always liked the heated diode units for many years until the blends became so used. Since the blends I had to get away from the heated diode simply because the blends would kill the heated diode sensor so quickly that you always had to second guess yourself or try a new sensor to be certain, this became very costly at $50 bucks a pop.

I carry 2 d-tek selects in my truck that I have been using over the last ~6 years and I have yet to replace a sensor in either unit and they are as sensitive today as they were when I bought them, and across all the refrigerants I work with from 22,134a, 404a,407, 410a, 414b, you name it. I haven't found another unit that can beat the quality and accuracy of my d-teks.

I would call inficon and see if they have a flat rate charge for repair before buying another detector.

I got phone # from inficon. They do not repair their units themselves. they have repair shops throughout the country. i called one in Phily. They have flat rate of $115. I'm going to try it. I'll post updates.
