Ive always wondered what would happen if you forgot to open the valves on a condenser.
H.O. Called with no A/C .
Evidently they bought their own unit online and installed it.
Plumbing solder, didnt know to open the valves. Broke the discharge to the bottom of the reversing valve. Oil everywhere. Wiring a mess.
I had mercy on them and fixed it even though they did shoot themselves in both feet.
The kicker is they asked if i would give them a warranty. Some people are clueless.
Zach,

In a disaster like this do you replace any of the oil that came flowing out?

I generally tell the HO I will fix this (specific details) for a price... and if we find anything else that will be extra... and get that signed before I start.

I also explain about the 'no warranty for internet sales' policy most manufacturers have... and as such this is out of their pocket.

IF they agree in writing to both conditions... we proceed with the repair.

I had a guy that would not agree, got someone from Craig's list to do the repairs... well in a month he is calling me again... I explained to him each time he does it 'on the cheap' more damage is done to the equipment and the expected life goes down... Then explained the cost of the repairs and the conditions of me coming out... He said he would get back to me... never did.

As a HO who is well-informed about HVAC, I know I would never attempt a DIY HVAC install. The more I learn about it, the more I am convinced of that. I even paid a guy to hook up my new gas stove and change the thermocouple on my water heater.

Some things are just better left to the pros, HVAC and dentistry being two of them I can think of off the top of my head.

I offer end of the driveway warranties on stuff like this....the warranty is good till I get to the end of their driveway on the way out.
That is too generous. I would have just said, "are you crazy, NO"

I saw an older Am Std that the guys put a new furnace in and moved the a-coil. They pumped it down and finished the job and just put a nitro charge in the lineset and coil since it was the dead of winter. The plan was to have service go out in spring to evac and charge but nobody wrote it down or forgot or something.

We got a call for no cool and they had ran the compressor all day and couldn't get it to cool. I found the valves closed and so evac and let the charge go. Thing ran like a top, quiet and never had another call yet, this was 2-3 years ago. It was just straight ac not a hp so it didn't dead head against the RV.

ahh the joys of buying from the internet, had a lady a couiple of years ago, bought 4 ductless with 6 zones ( 2 of the cond were 2 zone) anyway wanted aquote to install, looked over the entire house, figured all the electrical, where to hide the linesets, run the drains, patch drywall etc, told her @ 8 grand to install, she literally FREAKED out the knuckle head on line who sold it said she could get virtually any contractor to install for less than $ 500 !!!!!!!!!!!!,

yup see it all the time, the best is when some yahoo DIY installes then calls me to fix it........ and I have to tell them sorry the local vendor will not honor any warranty as they got smart check serial numbers now

Gooman reps

Goodman is building a better product but not policing it well enough.

It's sad really.
IMO Gooman likes selling their product with less warranty ..... Its a really smart marketing if you stop and think about it ...... Same profit with no warranty .... Its a No brainner .....
