There are NO shipping screws holding the coil in place on ANY of Tranes air handlers and what you're describing is normal. As long as the drain connection is on the bottom, it can't be wrong.

Looking at the Trane air handler convertibility sheet, the coil can be installed either way depending on the application.

Thank you

All for the replies. Enjoying the new system now and a drink. The shark fin was not removed. I will see if theycan do that when they do the follow up next week. Also, with the variable speed AH does it adjust speed on it's own? Someone on this forum mentioned having a tstat that would allow me to control with dan speed or a dehumidification setting which in turn would affect fan speed... I have the trane xr802 t stat and have no such options for dehumidification. Lastely, i have electric heat, and the heat pump. If i get a outdoor temp. Sensor to allow the stat to kick over to emergency automatically will i have enough wires to do so or will it require another run. Currently have 8 wires. Thanks for any replies in advance. You guys are very helpful and I apologize for the noob questions...

You don't want to automatically switch to emergency heat . You do want to lock out the heat strips at temps above 40 degrees depending on a balance point. The only time to switch to emergency heat s if the outdoor unit breaks

If I get to 20 degrees outside lets say will the AH automatically turn on the heat strips to both defrost and heat the home? It is my understanding that the heat pump is ineffective below approx 40 degrees so wouldnt be grossly inefficient for the outside unit to be running if it were 20 degrees?

I am confused because I figured the system would balance itself and automatically choose the right combination of things to get the temp right but when the installer/head of service left he said make sure to remember to switch to emergency heat when it gets real cold. With all this intuitive hardware and smart stats it just seems silly...

At 20 degrees you are still getting heat out of the heat pump and your heat strips will come on to help out most heat pumps work down to about 17 degrees but they do go into defrost a lot .

Yes. Does your thermostat have an outdoor temperature sensor?
No. I am assuming I need one. Or a different t stat. I have a trane xr802. It mentions outdoor temp sensoR in manual and also has a section for dehumidification but has an asterisk and says specific models. Not mine I guess. I think I can add the outdoor sensor. I assume it is hardwired and from what I read I should not run the wire right next to the tstat wire. Is that correct?

Possibly. The installation manual can tell you more than I can. If the stat can use an outdoor temp sensor, then it might have a setting to lock out the heat strips above a certain temperature.
