How many days do you want the fire to burn? I can't believe I'm sitting here trying to figure out a formula for this. I've got to get out of school.

i was just curoius cause my grandma wants a new furnace. and i usually just do service so i dont no much about sizing furnaces.

To me, all questions and the ability to answer them is important, but what are you testing for exactly? It takes 40 btu's to change one pound of water from 80 to 40. I can't remember off the top of my head, but it seems like we have 8-9 pounds per gallon for water.

8.33 pounds per gallon at 50°F.

Use a load calc program like HVAC Calc .
