My business computer (gateway) will not work right. If I click on the start menu it flashes on for a second and goes away every time. It was fine the other day and when I started it late yesterday this started. I’ve gone on line looking for a possible solution with no luck. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Had a motherboard meltdown recently. New computer, new op system (Windows 7). That's where the fun really started. Compatability issues everywhere....endless.....a nightmare. Windows 7 sucks. Best of luck.

Go to MajorGeeks.com. In the "Malware" section there is a sticky in capital letters. Read it and follow the steps for scanning and ridding your machine of trojans, adware, spybots, and viruses. You will see a thread or two there under my screen name. It's not as difficult as it looks.

You might be right about buying a new one, hmmm ... I'm maybe doing a moving job in the near future ... big bucks in moving jobs ... maybe I'll get two new computers ... :yes:

If you have a Windows Key on your keyboard, try that.
Try booting into Safe Mode, to see how that works.

This is the work computer at the shop that’s acting up ... it does not go to any sites except work related.

The other computer at the shop is for all kinds of things ... cept it burned up ... well not really or I would not be typing this now (actually I finished typing).

Motherboard most likely on the way out. Nothing fixes itself. Best way to fix it is go to www.dell.com

First, Check your keyboard, mouse, ensure none of the key is sticky.

Second, Press down the Ctrl key and hold it, not to let it go,

Third, while still holding down Ctrl key, press Esc key, the start menu will pop up, when start menu pop up , let both fingers go(The fingers holding Ctrl and Esc key.)

When your computer infect with virus or malware, it will slow down computer like drive a car from 65MPH to 10 MPH, and hard drive light will flashing none stop. Always back up and save your important and confidential document to
external drive or CD. Never save important or confidential document on the computer stay connect to internet 24/7 unless you have I.T. guy baby seat the system 24/7.

If your kids are computer expert, ask them to setup remote connection(such as thru logmein.com or thru VNC, PCAnywhere...) they can fix your computer remotely from anywhere in the world without have to show up at your house.
