I'm selfemployed. Been without health insurance for over 10 years. Between me, 2 kids and wife, we've made a few trips to emerg. room this year alone. Looking to spend 200-300 dollars per month. I'm 43 and think its time to pickup some health insurance. Any ideas?

200-300 per month? Good luck. I'm in the same boat you are. Last I checked for a family of 4 it was around 700-800.

is there any way you can get it has part of your business insurance coverage. We got that offer. FYI try insurancenoodle.com they have a really great list and some of the policies are really good and aren't that pricy

I pay a grand every three months for a family of 4.

It's basically to cover any 'emergency' for a major issue. We do get a discount on scrpts but not much. Deductable is $1500.00.

Don't blame me, I didn't vote for him!
Blaming it on who you didnt vote for....hummmmm . I think its a little more to do with lawyers , doctors, insurance companies and people with no insurance getting it paid for, for free. Its just ridiculous that everyone paying for insurance pays for the people not paying for it. Also there is getting to be a lot of monopolies in the medical business, very little competition. Heat shops get together to raise our prices ,cant do it ,thats a monopoly. Doctors ,anistethiolgists , surgions and many more in the medical trade are starting to get together to start their own monopolies. And its not like you have a choice to go to the other guy. They just claim thats not what they are and that their insurance rates are so high. They probably are but in relation to their wage? Im not sure which is worse the lawyers doctors or whatever. I just hope someone solves it.
No I dont think your vote would have mattered at solving that problem.

Look into a health savings account, or major medical coverage, these options are mainly to keep you from loosing your shirt when the big one hits. the cool thing about the HSA is that it is tax free savings, that is YOUR money, if you do not use it, within a year it is still Your money unlike a cafeteria plan. these are some things I am considering.

Family of four and no health insurance for 10 years?
How could you get good night sleep for all this time?
You must be very optimistic person. I wish I was like that.
What part of Philly are you from?

I work at one of the local hospitals here in Savannah. The health insurance just for me is 184.00 a month. For one I can't afford it and two it's a ripoff. High deductables, high copay. I've found being careful and lucky is easier.

i belong to a builders org. in no. ca. i get discounted hmo and dental, plus a discount on workers comp. i'm a gen contr .but all the trades belong ,and there are other pluses. it still isn't cheap

I got a call from a gal this morning. She sells medical insurance cards. $11 per month, per person. $19 for the whole family.
It covers several issues. I dont remember the details. But this plus maybe one other policy for you and your family may just put you into the kind of position, insurance-wise, that you have been looking for.

"ameriplan" then the word "amy" then that at sign, then yahoo dot com

I think it;s $36 to sign up. It doenst cover everything, but this could be a start. And .. no contract. Month to month.

$$$$$i9 per monthper family??????

hay guy please don't do it. use commen sense. $19 per month is suppose to help a family with any kind of medical needs!!!!!!!!

don't mean to dis .you R-12, but that's not going to help this guy.

Ameriplan is a health services discount plan, not an insurance policy. There are a bunch of companies out there offering similar plans. I have one.

The way they work is they get you enrolled into a group that allows you to take advantage of the same "discounts" that the insurance companies get from health care providers. You can use it as a supplement to a high deductible, low cost catastrophic type coverage health insurance.

The discounts vary widely, but in my experience they will generally more than offset the cost of the plan. I had about a 60% savings on prescription pain medication and nearly 50% off the cost of my physical therapy back in April. Typical emergency room and other hospital charges are deeply discounted like around 50-75%.

You have to have the ability to pay the bill at the point of service.....either with a credit card or with an escrow account that you are required to set up when you enroll (with the one I have).

It's not insurance, but it surely can save you a bunch of money if you have to shell it out.......out of your own pocket for any medically related expenses. It also enlightens you as to how the insurance companies operate. They tell you that you have been covered for that $1000 hospital bill when in reality they only pay the hospital $400. If you have no insurance or if you haven't met your deductible, you pay the $1000. ARRRRRRRRGH!!! :(

If you have a discount plan, you only have to pay the $400. ;)

help! i need health insurance

thanks for your advice. I'M FROM the n.e. I looked into the ameriplan , i'm considering it. I've been blessed with good health over the years. it seems once i hit 40, considering how hard i push my body, i,m feeling and seeing a change physicaly . self employed people avoid the doctors as much as possible. like someone said, the big one could be lurking around the horizon , its like you can,t aford insurance and you can,t aford to be without it. HATE TYPING!!!! I CALLED A FEW OF THESE SMALL BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS, THERE NO HELP. THIS COUNTRY HAS SO MUCH $$$$$ AND THEY SAY THAT SMALL BUSINESS HELP THE ECONOMY AND KEEP THE $$$$$$ FLOWING, YET WE CAN,T AFFORD INSURANCE. I,M GOING TO BUY INSURANCE AND PASS THE COST TO MY CUSTOMERS.

I think perhaps you should consider finding a way to make an additional $5.00 per hour in your business plan and get a nice HMO for your family.

I do not know why some people think it is the governments job to give health insurance to working people that are making a good living and driving nice cars ect. Maybe it would be time to consider working for someone that offers health ins. if your pusiness cant afford to support your family!

I am not trying to knock you, just asking why I should pay for peoples health care in the form of higher rates on my HMO to cover the un-insured that show up at the hospital with no ins.
