I ran into a problem of an apartment over a garage that was staying to hot, and the owner said, "It has never been like this, so I want the ac replaced" so after looking, the ac did have an issue and warranted replacement. after replacing the unit, the space did cool down better, but in the heat of the day, it would sky rocket, then cool off some at night till around 4am. What I ended up finding, he had put 3 layers of insulation on the apartment roof and all of the walls that previous winter. I was reading 108 deg on the roof and 90 deg on the walls and it would only get hotter as the heat of the day came in, the insulation was insulating the other insulation and not allowing the heat to be dissipated once the heat went away at night, we pulled off the layers and it became barrable again in the apartment, so it is possible to have to much insulation, I had to do a lot of reading and research to find the information and how insulation works, the R- factor etc.

Update time

the attic fan is useless, the A/C does run a few my kw/h per day, but its less than the fan was drawing 24/7. Plus that fan was loud and annoying, so I'll be removing it soon and probably putting in some eave ventilation in.

The furnace motor decided to go bad 10 pm on Tuesday, so I called the HVAC company I have a "service plan" with , they replaced the run-cap on my condensor. I called them and they couldn't get the on call guy to pick up the phone so they said they would put an urgent ticket in.

They still haven't called. I put in a few window units so my wife wouldn't panic.

The furnace motor windings must given up the ghost as the motor was just buzzing super loud. I called a buddy who is a HVAC contractor and we replaced the motor. The new motor draws about 900 watts when its running, the old motor drew 1100-1200 watts before it quit. The condensor seems to be working a bit better as well.

The writing is on the wall though, the unit must be replaced.

I really enjoyed helping fix the furnace, I offered to help my buddy for free as long as I get to learn stuff on the job. I'd like to start working HVAC eventually.
