Gentlemen,
I live in the phoenix metro area (east valley) and I have a 1700 sq ft house ( vaulted ceilings ) with a 5 ton 12 seer carrier unit. Predictably my power bills are pretty high. Last year in July my power bill was 550$.
I had extra insulation installed in the attic, a gable end fan to vent the attic and my unit runs alot. I know its old and inefficient, but i feel like the biggest detractor is my envelope, specifically the windows and other penetrations.
The bills are looking to be just as high, and I don't think i can avoid replacing the HVAC unit much longer. Before I pull that trigger i'd like to seal up the house as much as possible.
Every hvac contractor i've had come over tells me my unit is fine and isn't drawing excessive power and the subcool/superheat ( i can't remember ) is good , the differential is good.
bottom line up front is, how can i get a real insulation expert to come look at my house and do a blower door test or whatever without blowing too much smoke up my rear end.
Thank you for your help.
