One of the buildings i work at has certain areas leased to different businesses. This areas have their own equipment which we do not maintain or work on. This cooling tower has seen better days ill tell you that much...

About a month ago we had a service company come out to work on the unit and take a look at the repair they did. Till today this is still on, why have they not replaced the (X) I am not sure.

From this picture, can you guess what went bad and the purpose of the garden hose? :eek2:

I’m guessing the spray pump went bad and they installed a submersible sump pump with a garden hose run to the top and a sprinkler on the top end of that hose. :)

It was the electrical cord that gave it away ;)

Did they at least put a second “spray pump” on the other side? After all, two spray heads are better than one.

They sure did not, even worse. When they put the access door back on, they pinched the hose and hardly any water was coming out on top. Really a joke repair. Id be ashamed. 0 points for efficiency and 2 points for creativity I guess.

It’s the thought that counts.

Should be written in the Lease
All equipment shall be maintained in good working order!

That tower is not and is a hazard!
I'd shut it down until its cleaned, sanitized and put back in "Good Working Order"!

Welcome to the Real World of "What Ever It Takes", while you wait on Parts. Would you rather do this, or shut down all the water cooled condensing units that it feeds down range? I always made sure all my towers had some sort of emergency bypass, like the old city water fill and dump trick. But, in todays world, the tree huggers would hang you from the highest tree. Is it ugly?, Hell Yes, and the inside is probably full of broken slats, barnacles, and every waterborne disease know to mankind. PS: OSHA would have a Field Day on this, so get it Repaired and Cleaned up ASAP Please, and thanks for sharing!

I agree, but from what I know the building was bought after this contract was made so were pretty much waiting for it to expire and kick them out.

Unfortunately I'm just the messenger, I have no say.

Im not looking down on their attempt to fix the situation, what I am talking down on is their performance, when they put the hose and closed the door it pinched the hose and prevented adequate flow.

They should have at least verified it was working as best as it could.

Either way as mentioned we don't own this equipment and were waiting for the lease to end to kick the tenants out and replace all equipment.

I just wanted to share this with y'all..

I don’t disagree with this at all. After hour call outs create some pretty amazing and inventive temporary solutions. The OP said this was on for a month at this point though and if this were anything critical I would suspect the parts would be air freighted to wherever that is. One month for a spray pump sounds like a long wait time. I don’t blame the tech for trying a solution, I find it humorous that the building seems to have found a “temporary” solution and adopted it as a completed repair.

I assume the tenant is a restaurant. Restaurants are amazingly cheap when it comes to repairs of this nature.

I bet if the tech would have asked for permission to make the temporary repair, they would have asked for a cheaper way.

SOOO it turns out the reason for the long wait is that the spray pump manufacture has moved down to the E coast and finding a representative to sell the spray pump was difficult. On top of that, the spray pump is apparently special and cases an aluminum rod ( this is what the tech told me ) and it comes with a hefty price of $+.

Anyways that will be replaced today.
