When your neighbors units quits working I guess they come get you for help. Goodman. Work mostly commercial and have not diagnosed this unit before. MBVC air handler with ECM motor. Motors begins to start then stops. Getting diagnostic fault code six. Didn't have manual. I just found one on line. Apparently if you don't have the ComfortNet thermostat , a little tougher to diagnose. ComfortNet would narrow down fault on its display. There are no restrictions Just trying to figure out if it is motor or board. Cant give much more info ,didn't get into it much because I had no manual. Just wondered if anyone had the same issue

Had a similar situation a few weeks ago and didn't have a ecm motor tester. Went back with board, blower, and Goodman chip for the board. Also borrowed an ecm tester from another tech. Motor tested good, replaced board and she was going good. On their motors I'm not sure how to check either without a ecm tester.

Not sure if this will help, but I believe there is a free app from Gentec, with ECM diagnostics. With some of the motors, like the X13, the tester isn't needed.

It's most likely the module but I have had some that the bearings in the motor were tight and acted same. Only once that I can remember have I ever changed a board on a unit with ecm motor because the motor wouldn't run. It just isn't a normal failure I've seen. I have a harness I got from Trane that just applies 24v and common to the correct pins to tell the motor to run. The harness isn't needed but is easier and faster than counting pins and trying to stick wire in them to apply power.
