I have a 5 ton 16 seer Goodman Unit that was recently installed. Where can I find the serial number for outdoor condenser unit to register the product? The installer did not provide it to me. I do not see any rating plate on the condenser unit itself.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Should be below between where the copper comes into the unit, and where the electrical comes into the unit. No tools or removal necessary

It’s on the electrical data decal above those line set guessing a 5”x5” square. Shows the voltage rating , refrigerant type , circuit breaker size model number etc. also the indoor unit has one, assuming both where changed at the same time.

The entire HVAC unit was replaced at the same time. Will I see the serial number for condenser in the inside unit? Where would I see on the inside unit? When I plugged in the 2 serial numbers I see inside, Goodman recognizes as Furnace and Coil. I believe there should be a third serial number for condenser.

Those stickers are hard-core. I’d have to imagine that if somebody removed it it would’ve left an obvious sign right there on the spot that you took a picture of. Each piece of equipment has its own model and serial number and no, the outdoor unit sticker would not be inside. I would contact the install and company and have them give you the information

Yes you are correct you need the 3rd number ( serial number ) for the outdoor unit to register to get the full manufacturer warranty which is located at the outdoor unit electrical data plate/decal. From your last photo it looks like it was either removed or never came with one from the factory. I personally never seen a data plate missing from the factory, but I suppose it's possible. As suggested contact the Installing Contractor.

No sign of any sticker being removed. Looks brand spanking new with no scratches or glue.

Something very fishy about the unit not having a data plate with the model & serial number on it. How do you know it's a 16 SEER or even a 5 ton for that matter? I guess you could tell the tonnage by the compressor model number. My suspicious mind is wondering why the unit does not have a data plate & the two things that keep popping up are that it's already been registered to someone else or it's stolen. The fact that you are here asking us this question instead of your installer also makes me think something is not kosher about the unit.

When you contact the Installing Contractor about the data plate, ask them for the AHRI 7 or 8 digit number, and go to this web site to prove it's a matching system. There will be a lot of information about your SEER, EER, total Cooling BTU.

Also this site to check if your system may qualify for any potential rebates for installing energy star rated equipment.

I did ask my installer and he had said that he will provide it after the installation was complete. Now that the installation is complete, he is not answering my phone. I wanted to register the unit on my own but don't have the serial number. I will try to contact the dealer to see if the installer indeed purchased the unit from there.

If it is stolen, I would expect to see some damage where the information should be. However, I do not see anything wrong there and the unit looks brand new with no scratches or anything.

Stranger things have happened but I just cant imagine a unit leaving the factory without a data plate. Hmm... I’d call goodman and see what they got to say. Maybe they’ll send a rep from a local distributor in your area to take a look.

We had a guy that would peel tags off because he stole them from the company he worked for.

Another place to find the model and serial number would be on a white sticker inside the electrical compartment.

I thought they stopped putting the sticker inside. I have seen a QR code on the base pan now near the service valves.

The data plate on those units are just glued on so I would think it wouldn't be hard to put some heat on them, peel them off & clean up the leftover glue without too much problem. There may be a good explanation but I'm just thinking about the worst case scenario first. When units are purchased from a distributor they keep a record of the serial numbers they sell so if the contractor bought it from your local distributor they should be able to solve the mystery. Without a serial number for the unit I don't see how you are ever going to be able to get any part warranty even if something breaks next week. If your contractor can't furnish you a serial number I doubt he's going to be able to furnish you a parts warranty either. No distributor is going to warranty a part without a serial number to reference it to. One possibility is inside the unit control cover Goodman used to have a little paper sticker with the model & serial # stuck on. I don't think they still do on the newer units but it may be worth a shot to have someone take a look.
