a friend of mine is an Austin detective. He told me he once had to point his pistol at a perp and he had the red dot on the guy's chest. It had this gorwn man down on his knee's, in tears, begging for his life.

Personally, I like the idea od the integrated light and laser dot in one device.

Dandy,

I like the idea of the Laser for the 'intimidation factor' --- even i were being attacked and my life threatened...i think id still be very upset if i had to actually end someones life ; a red dot on someones chest just might bring them to thier senses . jmho.

I'm going to put my flame suit on for this since I dont post often but this bothers me. Nothing about carrying a handgun should be for "intimidation factor". It's a last resort, once drawn you have comitted to putting an end, a grave one, to a situation when you are in fear for your life or the life of loved ones. If you feel that you are not prepared to use deadly force in this situation then maybe you should consider other means of self defense, maybe pepper spray, anything from Fox Labs would be a good choice.

A red dot on someones chest, whether or not you instigated the conflict could very well end up with you in handcuffs, that sidearm comes out of it's holster for one purpose, DEADLY FORCE, you made the ultimate decision and can live with it, and the legal battles to follow.

I also understand that while lasers, 3.5 lb. connectors, and mods are fun, they have no place in a carry or personal defense firearm. Please understand that that even if there is a "good shoot" and you were in self defense, we live in a gun unfriendly society, and there may be no criminal charges, but you can probably expect a civil suit from the family of the deceased where the prosecutor will be sure to point out the additions you added to make your black gun even more deadly. You may laugh, but it is unfortunately that rediculous. The best thing you can do to make a self defense firearm defensable in court is to carry what your local or city police use. This would include heavier triggers if that is what is issued, and grain weight of bullet. The firearm needs to be as defensable as you.

If you don't already I suggest you enroll in some firearm defense or concelled carry training courses, that teach defensive shooting, legalities and defensibility of deadly force. At the least, if you haven't heard of him, do a search on articles by Massad Ayoob, he was law enforcement, and is now a defense trainer, and expert witness in cases of deadly force.

Yes I have Glocks, several, my favorite being a part of my user name. They are the most reliable handgun I have found. Over 7000 documented rounds through the 30 without a single failure. I wouldn't trade the reliabilty of knowing it will do it's job when called upon for an aftermarket intimidating red dot. The real intimidation is silent, peace of mind, confidently knowing you're fully prepared if the time comes.

I'm sorry if this came off rough, just looking out for you. Go to http://www.glocktalk.com/ check out the carry issues forum. If you don't believe me feel free to post your above quote there. Train yourself, educate yourself on self defense and above all stay safe.
