Do I need to change POE oil in a R410a compressor open to atmosphere for an year?

I bought an used 4 year old condenser which was replaced with a bigger one. This condenser was neither pump down nor service valves closed after it's removal and sitting in the garage for an year exposing the open line to atmosphere. Since the POE oil is hygroscopic, what are my options to put this unit back into service? (I do not know how to check the oil level though).

1. Do I have to replace the oil? If yes, is there any method not to de-braze/remove the compressor?
2. Can I just use a liquid line filter/dryer?

Please help this newbie. Thanks in advance,
-Joe

Let the contractor know that it has been sitting open to the atmosphere for that long so they can replace the oil and follow the proper cleanup procedures. You have more concerns than just bad oil so they will probably end up adding some components to the system to further protect it if you choose to go the repair route.

Joe, I personally would never use it, or say depend on it in a place where you would need dependable a/c, using it as some sort of learning project, would be a better idea.

It may be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to clean up the contamination from that.

I'd chalk it up as a learning experience and get a new unit.

OP, what you want to do here is possible.
However, you'll probably end up spending more money then what you’d have spent on a brand new unit. And if a contractor installed it you’d get a warranty too.
