Hi guys, yesterday my condenser fan would not run, so I took the cover off and pushed the plunger down and it came on. So of course I cleaned it and made sure no ants and stuff was in there and put it back on. Still the same thing, I also tested the wires for 240 and the low voltage for 24 and they were good. Today my dad went and bought a new one and it does the same thing. Any suggestions?

How about the Compressor, did it Start Yesterday?

Where did you test your wires, to get your 24volt readings? In other words, did you check for 24volts coming from the thermostat, or on the isolated transformer itself?

Here are some Possibilities you may have: 1.) Bad thermostat, and or thermostat is not in the cooling mode, and not calling for cooling 2.) Open or shorted thermostat wiring going to your thermostat from the transformer, and or contactor. 3.) Weak, and or shorted transformer, that will not handle the coil load. Does the transformer look burnt, and or smell like electrical burning?

Here is a quick test, since your dad got you a new contactor: Hook a wire to each side of your new contactor, then touch, or clip them to the 24vac side of your "isolated transformer", and see if it will pull in. If it does pull in, go back to steps 1 and 2 and troubleshoot it.

Good Luck,

Wayne

Any suggestions? I suggest you stop guessing and hire a reputable contractor.

It is troubleshooting to see if it starts the condenser. Anyway I ended up bypassing the low pressure switch. Thank you.

Google "Arc flash" and then tell me if its troubleshooting

Yep its shorted

Is it shorted or open? And if it's open, why?
You've chosen to work on the unit so you've therefore assumed all responsibility in working on it safely and correctly. If you don't know how to check a pressure switch, you need to step back and let someone show you how to do it right.
Blindly bypassing safety switches is a very stupid and unsafe thing to do.

So again, why would the low pressure control not allow the unit to start?
