Hello,

I'm purchasing a Rheem HP: RPNL-031JEZ

I'm choosing 2 air handlers:
RHKL-HM3617
RHLL-HM3617

The installer I'm working with believes the Motor in the RHKL is not worth it. Do any of you all have experience with this?

Thanks!

Brandon

I think a good majority of pros would disagree with him. Variable speed has many advantages, mostly providing constant airflow over a variety of duct conditions. The motor in the RHLL is like a standard motor, the as duct conditions get more restrictive, like a filter plugging up, airflow drops.

Did the installer explain the differences between them to you? Might be relevant in your area or for your application. I guess it depends how much extra he's charging.

Thanks BaldLoonie!

The installer just said that the new motors are very expense to replace and don't make much of a difference.

I will go with the RHKL.

Great website. Thanks for the advice!

Actually, the X13 sometimes is more efficient than the true variable speed!

The RHLL is an ECM so it would be pricey to replace as well. Fortunately they hold up well though I don't like Rheem's way of wanting you to buy the motor & the module together when most of the time all you need is the module.
