Oh boy here we go again. Only Trane technicians understand how the chiller functions enough to use Kestral? Funny how one day Joe Blow average technician with limited experience works for XYZ Co, and next week he works for Trane, then hes qualified to use Kestralview? Trane has just as many problemed techs as the next company, face it!!!!

Who said that only trane technicians understand how the chiller functions enough to use kestrel?
I don't see where that was ever said and if you take notice I chose my words carefully because I didn't want it to sound one sided, Like some are taking it. There are plenty of brilliant and not so bright techs out there that work for contractors, and for OEM's including trane, Everyone knows that. For the sharp techs out there, Not being able to use kestrel shouldn't be taken as an insult and make you think that your being restricted/degraded from doing your job.

This statement is far from reality, It does not work that way. Just because Joe Blow's daddy has a corvette, Doesn't mean Joe Blow can use it. Joe Blow's daddy will let him take it for a spin if daddy thinks little Joey is ready to do so.

chillermafi, :D I think you will get over it. It's not the end of the world, Ya know! I guess this means you will have to settle for techview now, Unless you're too ________ to use that too. :D

Undoudtabley "Trane" says that only "Trane" personell are qualified to get the kestral key. We looked into buying one, when we did we were kindly told that Trane will not sell them and they are only for "Trane" personell. What is funny is that we have a guy "chillermafi" that I work with. Very solid mechanic, not much that I have seen that he cannot fix, last year had the Trane experience and is now back with us (luckily). When he was with Trane they trusted him with the key, now that he works for a competitor, you would think he needs help tying his shoes.

That is just the way Trane looks at it. It really has nothing to do with who's smarter or more talented. Just who works for Trane and this is a tool for them.

I heard there is a lot of people that have these "pirated" software versions of the key and that is why they went to the new key-less version.

It's not a matter of intelligence. It all boils down to how much information can we keep proprietary in order to promote our service department and still be able to sell our equipment. Lets face it, marketing makes the rules, we just have to live by them.
