I had a mini split AC installed and the installer did not weigh the refrigerant when charging the system. Now I am unsure whether it is properly charged. Can the refrigerant charge be determined using gauges alone or does the refrigerant need to be evacuated and then added again?

Was there any refrigerant added? Many Minisplits are precharged for a certain amount of line and no additional charge is needed.

NO

Minisplits are a weigh in situation cause the metering device is at the outdoor unit....

they are window units on steroids........ :)

Some say factory charge good for 6' to 50' or something like that. Might have been a Fujitsu or Mitsubishi class. With the electronics and EEV, apparently not as critical as we'd think. What brand did you get? How long are the refrigerant tubes?

Not on a mini, most will be scratchin their heads trying to figure superheat.
Yea, they'll be wonderin' why both pipes are cold :D

All the ones I ever did had to be weighed in. Better have him pull it out and weigh the proper amount.
Read the link I posted, the charge has all got to come out anyway. He bought this unit himself then used an installer that didn't use a vacuum pump.
Perhaps I offend him? I asked if it's been evacuated yet and he disappeared.......no shying away from the truth. No vac pump means noncondensibles which means moisture is eating away at the unit as we speak.
