Blower speed change for Lennox CBX27UH

I just had a new Lennox system installed and want the blower speed changed. The installing contractor tells me it cannot be done. That it is a variable speed motor and automatically adjusts for static pressure. In reading the installation instructions that came with the new equipment, I find the blower motor has different speed taps. Is this something a mechanically inclined homeowner can do? If so, should I? The air handler is a CBX27UH.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply, beenthere.
The air handler is a CBX27UH-042, matched with a XC14-036 condensing unit.
It replaces a 2 1/2 ton system. As far as I know it is factory set to 1400 cfm at .5 static. What I need to know is if this is something I can handle or should I contact another contractor?

Did they also replace all of your old duct work. Since it probably was smaller then your old 2.5 ton system needed.

Lots of companies fail to set up the blowers properly. While it can be slowed down, its possible, that you will need duct work alterations.

A home owner can set the speed lower, or higher if need be. It just you can't check to make sure that the speed change didn't effect the charge.

The 27 is NOT variable speed. It has 5 speed taps and airflow drops as static increases. To set the airflow properly, a tech would need to measure static pressure and try each tap til he got around 1200 for the 3 ton unit. There are also settings for constant fan and electric heat.
