I have a few baseboard floor registers just like in the picture I have attached. They are located in my living room, under a window and are about 2 feet apart. I need to move a few chairs in front of them and had a few questions. How much will putting furniture in front of them affect the AC and heating performance? Is there a rule as far as clearance? I think I can get them so only about half the grill is blocked at all by the chairs. Thanks

The picture is not the greatest but that looks like a 24" gerwin style register. They are designed to throw air in a modified fan pattern to help with diffusion (thus mixing) of air. At any rate the pattern won't be impacted all that much unless you set furniture right up against them.

IMO a 4 legged chair such as a dinning chair shouldn't be any problem as far as blocking the air distrubution, but furniture such as a winged arm chair might be a problem. your biggest problem would be having drapery setting near over over the registers would be a serious problem.

I have 2 chairs blocking the 2 registers. One is a recliner that is about 4 inches from the baseboard register. I have it moved so it is only covering half the register. Could I cover up the half that is blocked by the furniture to force the air to move to the open side?

The other chair has a rounded arch in the back. It is right in front of the other grill. It is 4 inches from the center of the grill and farther as the chair arches to the left and right. I was thinking of blocking just part of the middle to force the air to the sides around the chair.

Anyone ever done something like this? Thanks
