Anyone tried the new Testo 557 digital gauges?

I may be in the market for a new set of digital gauges soon. Not sure what the latest greatest on the market is. I was looking at the new Testo or Fieldpiece SMAN

Did they come in a shock proof case , if not I highly recommend one .I bought two of the old ones and They both crapped out in less than a year . Put third set in shock proof case , still look and work like new for 3 years now .

Have you tried smart probes? I thought they were unnecessary until I started used them, now I wouldn’t go back to lugging around a manifold set with hoses for anything. Just a suggestion, I know some folks like manifold sets.

Me, I’m all but over probes.

I can’t stand having to break out the phone to get saturation temps and so forth.

Too much dorking around.

I like digital, but like the dedicated screen of the tool itself.

What Id like to see it a robust receiver of sorts made by the probe manufacturer that all the data gets routed to from the probes and auto connects.

That is the size of like a DVM meter and has a very long life battery. Like an entire season. With a good range that never drops out.

Fully expandable to air probes and so on.

That can then Bluetooth to the phone for a report of that’s what your into.

Probably asking too much, but hey.

That sounds like a pretty cool idea.

My Digicool AK900 is still
Kicking for now. I thought it was going bad but turned out to be a bad temperature clamp causing strange readings. Replaced clamps and all is well again. I bought a set of the fieldpiece wireless probes. I use the hygrometers all the time. Haven’t tried the pressure probes yet or the manometers.

I've used JL probes since the day they were released. Even with the "growing pains" of the app and connection, (which is largely fixed), I still love them and use them most of the time. I do like to have a manifold sometimes, and I will admit, the probe connection to the manifold is (from my experience) 100%, so I use it a lot too. With all the data that FP gives in it's app and the long range, I have no reason to use Testo. I've used the older Testo 550 and liked it a lot, but it just doesn't do what the JL system will do. Now does the new Testo read psychrometers and calculate capacity, TEET, and superheat/subcooling. and display that info on the manifold? I'm sure you could use MQ and get that type of data with them, but the JL system will work with MQ too, so again, no need to go Testo. I like Testo stuff, but they always seem to be a step behind the competition, if the new 550s was competing against the SMAN 360, then that would be a pretty fair comparison.
Just one man's opinion.

Testo Probes are the way to go. I love them but hated that anytime I needed to evaluate what they were seeing, my damn phone would ring. Sooooo, I grabbed an old Samsung tablet and put a new battery in it. $25 and two hours later my probes have their own dedicated display that is never disrupted. Im telling ya, try it and you won't go back.

That’s cool you’re happy with them and I’ve been debating replacing an old iPad mini battery for use with my probes as well.

The 3 things that made me switch from the Testo probes to the FPs was the drastic range difference, the speed of the NTC temperature clamps vs the split rail, and the app was horrible. Don’t know if that’s changed or not. I even emailed them, and they weren’t interested in integrating all of the wireless tools. I had the air probes, refer probes, mini-vane anemometer, hot-wire anemometer, 730-3 DMM power clamp, and the 420 flow hood. The 730-3 couldn’t zero AC Amps, so the accuracy just wasn’t there especially with small motors like draft inducers. The SC680 is much better. The Amp clamp design of the 730 is great though.

I have used a few fieldpiece tools and was satisfied with most of it. I guess I didn't fall in love with it or I would still be using it. Currently, I have a lot of friends and workmates that are very happy with what they are using. I may go that way the next time I need something. Which I would like to say should be a while, but anyone who has been at this for as long as I have knows...it won't be long before something of mine fails or something shiny catches my eye...

I’ve accumulated Testo, Fieldpiece, Sporlan and Appion smart probes but still prefer my Digicool AK900s. I grabbed three new AK900’s stashed away when I found out they were stopping production. The only thing that seems to fail on the AK900 are the pipe clamp temp thermistors/wires & connectors. I just don’t like having to pull my phone out and connect all the sensors to take quick readings. I like having the dedicated screen on the tool. I can say that i use the smart probes mainly when working on RTUs or if I run into a real unusual situation where streaming real time readings is invaluable. The iManifold I purchased before they released all of the wireless zigbee probes but then couldn’t justify the cost of the entire system.

I do use the Fieldpiece joblink Hygrometer probes often for wet bulb measurements. I just hope I don’t forget to pull hygrometer probes from the ducts before I leave a job. I do wish FP made a range extender/repeater like Yellow Jacket YJacks have available. I see that Fieldpiece states that the new range is 1000’ with the updated APP but have not noticed a difference in their range.

Anyone have any experience with the new Yellow Jacket YJacks? I hope when Appion releases their new ION PT probes that they give you all the data on their small screens including SH & SC.

I believe the 1000 ft range on the field piece probes has more to do with your device than the app.

I rarely use my manifold/hoses anymore (Digi-cool). JL3 probes and an iPad mini is what I use now, all in a dedicated Vetp Pro tool bag. All the real time data streaming live to my tablet is just too tough to give up, and I can take the tablet with me as I go into the house, attic, whatever. Particularly nice when adjusting SH on TXVs.

I sold it about 6 months ago. It took about 2 months to sell. Had 2 “best offers”. One was decent $850, another was like $550. I declined and lowered the listing to $900 from $1100 and got a full price bid.

I use thumb screw core depressors, and just add a valve core removal tool between the suction probe and the core depressor. I use the side port of the vcrt for the probe, and the end port for the hose to the refrigerant tank. Once you use the thumb screws, you'll never go back.

Still using Digicool AK900 and have the older YJ Digicool refrigerant system analyzer. I also still have (4) new Digicool Ak900, and a many new sets of pipe clamp temp probes, as backups because i trust them so much. Especially after having used the Testo 550s when they first came out and all the issues with pipe clamp temp sensors that would break constantly….

I do have the FP Joblink probes, Testo Smart probes, Sporlan Pro/R probes and (2) Appion ION probe sets (on set mounted on a manifold and the other as wireless probes. I have the Imanifold but gave up on buying all the wireless probes because of the cost although I love that they used Zigbee for wireless protocol instead of Bluetooth. I wish Fieldpiece would make a extender or repeater like the Yellow Jacket Yjacks have available.

Does anyone know the part number for the short 6” charging hoses with dual straight female ends with core depressors and also the 6” hose with one with a straight and one offset female end?

Thanks
