Im am looking into purchasinh a digital camera soon. I have read so many reviews on several different Brands and models and still cant make up my mind. Anyone have any suggestions on Brand, Model? I want a 4 or 5 megapixel and ability to take Great macro shots. Thanks

canon eos 20-D 8.2 megapixel, definitly not a work camera.
hewlett packard makes awesome cameras, i have several for work, just stay above 3 megapixel & ya will be ok for up to very good 5X7`s disregard digital zoom its ruins picture quality.. hope this helps
there is a site called steves digicams that is very nice, lotsa good reviews

For the smaller ones, the Fujis do a nice job. I have an older one that does amazingly well, I've recommended to family too. We have some $100 cheapos for the installers and they can turn in some nice shots with them.

Of course I have my D70 which I wouldn't trade for anything!

I'm on my second Olympus

by choice, I traded my first one for a canoe and electric motor. The second one has 10X zoom.

Good advice to ignore the digital zoom. Optical zoom has value, though.

I love my camera.

Same here. Works well as a first camera or for getting those sweet shots with experience. Easy to learn, operate, work from. Picked it up with carrying case and extra battery for under $400.00 on the net. Additional 64 MB stick for $25 at discount store.

Most of the Good Names make some great cameras right now. In the 4-5 MP range. Prices $300-600.00 Canon makes some nice new ones (G-6 & S-70 I believe) I love my Sony and am going to stay with them.
The Nikon & Canon's (D-70, 300D & 20D) are all very good cameras. But cost a lot more and then if you add in good lenses $$$$$$
So do you want a point and shoot, a Semipro or a DSLR?
Here is a great Webb site all about digital cameras, http://www.dpreviewcom , it's across the pond but most cameras are the same.

Good Luck,

go to a store and actually try the camera out if it is easy to use you will usse it allot if its difficult you wont use it much.

Get 3 to 4 megpixs. 3 to 10 times optical zoom. a screen on the back. Li-ion battery(S) is a must. try to get a macro setting (for ultra closeups) get an extra mem card as big as you can afford 256, 512 meg or bigger. if you want to do movie clips make sure it has sound or you are making charlie chaplin movies. if a burst mode is available get it its a handy feature with kids (takes 2 or 3 pics at 1 sec intervals) get a pocket sized camera you will carry it and take more photos

make sure the camera will take jpeg photos cause thats what the photo labs want.
make sure the size of the pixals is in a standard size
eg 3 to 2 = 4by 6 print. (while you still get prints in a standard 4x6 or 5x7 size the corrosponding digital size doesn't always match. this means that some times the images top and bottom are cut off to fit the 4x6 print, normally not a problem but I've had some photos messed up this way

olyumpus, nikon, cannon, you cant go wrong with any of these get a sony if you want it to be a no brainer but the others do take a better photo indoors and with flash.

out side most cameras will take acceptable photos it is indoors under flash conditions that will make the difference. I recently used my sony dscs75 and my buddies cannon to take photos and the cannon did take better photos using the flash indoors

I have a sony dscs75 for 4 years and have taken 4000 photos/clips with it and its been good

my next camera will be the olympus C700 series compact digital with li-ion battery and a 512 meg card
