Your not in serious trouble, but you are putting money down a rathole by delving into the mysteries of HVAC. Get your friend back and have him check the system and order the matching parts. I don't understand why even the most hack shop would sell you a coil without getting the exact match needed for the rest of the system.

Yeah-- I know I screwed up. I can't blame the installer because he did tell me about this and it was completely my fault for forgetting about his word of warning. I take full responsibility for my situation.

Trust me, this is the last time I ever do something like this again. Lessons have been learned. Please try your best not to flame the crap out of this thread if you can help it.

I did not intend to violate the rules by asking how to fix the situation or anything here, I have hired a licensed contractor to get me out of this mess. I was only curious to how much damage had already been done and if anyone had seen results of a situation similar to mine.

Again, my apologies if this thread was out-of-line.

Not out of line at all. We like to hear from those who provide our bread and butter continuous sales of equipment :D

DIY is taboo here, but I think half the reason is that people ask for DIY help here often make it plain they have no business opening a service panel with or without help from the way or type of questions they ask.

I'm just another consumer, but my screwdriver is often much braver than it should be. HVAC is full of little tricks that can mess up even experienced guys, so caution may be the smartest route.

Don't worry too much about the "rules", they will shoot me first I am sure.
