Had a brand new 5 head blueridge mini split system installed a few months ago. A, B, C, and E blow cold and have had no issues except the return line(the big one I have been told) is feeezing cold and the intake(smaller one) is warm. The D unit has given us multiple problems since the start. It has never blown as cold as the others and this unit is opposite in which the return line is warm and the intake line is freezing cold(both inside and outside). We also have to have another unit running in order for the D unit to have any hope of blowing cool air. I have contacted alpine in which he suggested that the lines were crossed somewhere. My husband and I have traced back all the lines and they are not crossed. I called them back and he says both copper lines should be very cold and he does not know why or how it is happening. Since the installation I had a company come in and say there were leaks and they fixed them. That same company came out another time and stated that the D unit was bad so we replaced and put in a brand new head unit(same problem remains). That company then came out and said it needed to be charged(I did not know at this time you had to vacuum all Freon and rewrite so the guy just hooks up and adds freon). That caused he system to be overcharged and throw a code of E1 for high pressure. Today I had a separate place come out and vacuum the lines and reweigh the Freon but our original problem still remains. The D Head Unit is not blowing as cold as it should be and is not even cooling a less than 300 sq ft room. When you first turn it on it seems cold but then you quickly realize it is nowhere near as cold as it should be.

Well we quickly realized that guy didn’t know what he was doing when we were calling him to come back every day(we had a 3 head system installed as well which is now running fine after leaks have been fixed). So that is when we called this company that came out to do the leak check, replace head and overcharged our system. They refuse to return my calls and even come out I’m assuming because I called them out on overcharging or system.

Well three licensed companies have had no idea and have not solved the issue. They keep charging money for things that are not the problem. This is why I have come to the forum to maybe get an idea of where to start with troubleshooting. Unfortunately for us the company has NO installers anywhere near our area. Finding lots of techs that say they know about minisplit systems but finding that to be untrue.

Well......here is the problem. Minsplits tend to be quite complicated in their construction and operation. They are fairly easy to install if, and this is a big if, they come with proper installation instructions and these instructions are followed by the installer very closely.

There are four major brands that most techs on this site would recommend due to good warranty, engineering, parts availability and technical support. In no particular order they are Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Daikin, and Sanyo.

Most other brands which tend to be cheaper can work but any perceived upfront cost savings is immediately lost upon any kind of issue with the unit.

Since the only technical support for these units appears to be from the retailer, it is highly unlikely that they will have been adequately trained by the manufacturer on the detailed technical information required to diagnose the issue. Even if you find out the actual manufacturer, they will most likely will not talk to you directly and even if they did, I doubt they are one of the four companies listed above, so their technical support will be suspect at best.

In addition, even if you find a highly competent technician to work on this unit, he may not be able to solve the problem without adequate technical support due the the complexity of the operation of most ductless Minsplits.

Sorry to tell you that you have most likely purchased a lemon.

So what part is the lemon? The condenser which seems to work with the other 4 head units just fine or the D head unit that I have already replaced with a brand new head unit? I feel it has to be something silly as we have a 3 head unit working just fine if the same brand and 4 of the 5 heads working fine on the 5 unit even after replacing the troubled head. Could there be something plugging the lines for that head unit or something else wrong with the lines as that is the only part we did not swap it when we swapped the heads.
I don’t think blaming in on the brand is the solution. What is the chance that both of the heads I mounted in the living room would be faulty but all the others work fine?

What brand is this unit?
This is the problem with consumers thinking they are getting a “deal”. They buy the equipment, then the only contractors interested in installing it are the ones you probably don’t want in the first place.
Then you quickly wind up with a mess.
Not to mention those Chinese off brand units are terrible. And you usually end up ripping them out and throwing them in the trash a year or two down the road.

There can be many things causing the issue. The smartest guys here are not going to be able to diagnose your issue over the Internet. They would need to be on site. Not to mention the rules of this site do not allow us to provide DIY information.

You need to find a highly skilled HVAC technician well versed in his trade, especially electrical troubleshooting to have any luck finding a solution.

See OP'S first post.

Brand is Blueridge, which according to the Googler is a rebaged private label sold by Alpinehomeair.com

My mistake, I missed that.
I’ve never worked on one of those.

I will bet that 98 percent or greater of us have not worked on that brand.

I looked around. Not much technical data I found.
But they boast that they have the features of more expensive brands. Sure, I bet that’s true........
Looks like another cheap Chinese junk unit really.

So with out factory support what are we suppose to do?

Throw it out, get a contractor that specializes in minis and replace the off brand with something that can be serviced when needed.

This is an admission that your request is DIY. Site rules clearly state it cannot be given.
All to often an owner makes that request stating that they are asking on behalf of their tech. That is not a way to circumvent the policy. If the tech wants advice, they need to make it themselves in the closed forums.

This appears to be another admission of DIY.
